    Buell blinker how to?

    Hey all,

I want to do the buell blinker conversion on my bike like in the canyonchasers.net article. Only problem is in the article the guy says "I made a bracket and attached them to the front", I am not sure how to do this, and there was no pictures or anything of how he did it. Has anyone done this, I want to order these but do not want to have them sit b/c I can't figure out how to get them on. And I don't want some ghetto crap, duct tape rig for the front signals lol...The rear some pretty easy right, just bolt and go I think, but the front I am not sure how I would get them on, b/c the stock ones wrap around the forks, and the buell is just one little bolt, any help would be greatly appreciated, and pics or diagrams would be awesome! Thanks in advance!

I have mine already in the garage...its just a matter of putting them on now. But i have heard that there is a different blinker relay needed since the bulbs will flash really fast if put on stock (since they are smaller than 1157 bulbs). Either that relay is needed i think or just put 1157's in there but that i dont really want to do since that requires taking out the orange insert which makes them look real cool in the first place... The fronts im just gonna mount right on the stock headlight brackets, and the rears in the stock location, yeah.

You can kinda see the braket in this photo:

        and this

Its super simple actually. Its a strap of metal with two holes drilled in it. The top hole goes behind the aluminum dog-ear using the existing mounting, and the bottom hole holds the winker.

Its simplicity makes it hard to photograph.

        Hope that helps.

ooooohhhhhhh, lol, I see, hell yeah that is simple and would work great! Thanks canyonc.! By the way, are those signal covers stock? I looked at some in the Buell dealer and they didn't look that dark to me, yours look soooo tight.

illzoni: Yes, that is what I was thinking of doing too, just drilling the blinker into the headlight bracket like you've done, I wasn't sure how it would look though, but seeing yours lets me know that it would look great!

Thanks for the responses guys, I am going to order them now, oh BTW, the best price I can find at my Buell dealer is 12 a piece, I remember the article saying they were half that price, am I getting screwed locally or do they just cost that much now? Anyone know a good source online to get them?

          Thanks again,

I just drilled holes in the headlight "ears"... worked mint...
As for the bulbs, you want amber 1156's not the 2 pole 1157's

After market ears... but I did the same with the stockers.

Buell doubled the price of their winkers last summer. Bastages!

And mine look different because I put in the 1156A bulbs to get the flash rate correct, which requires removing the amber screen inside the winker.

Canyon, oh ok, so removing the amber screen causes that look right? B/c I want exactly what you have, it is perfect! Secondly, when you say you put the 1156 bulbs in does that mean you do not have to change the flash relay like you said to in the article?

Also I see most of you have removed the tubular bars that the old blinkers were bolted to, how do you remove the seat now, I thought the key and trunk release were on that? Did you have to cut them off, or do they unbolt?

                Thanks!

                  Jason,

Swapping bulbs prevents having to deal with the flasher relay. The bigger bulb has a larger draw and causes the relay to flash at the correct rate.

Once you get the signals and take them apart to swap the bulbs it'll all make perfect sense to you.

I left my grab-bar on the sub-frame because I thought it was much easier and I wasn't bothered by the aesthetic of it. Then I just have my rear winkers mounted to it, and my seat latch is in the OEM location.

                      Canyon,

Did you do anything to the grab bar mounting location, I pulled the pic in your article but it looks stock to me, and I saw that the buell blinkers are small and square stalks where the honda's are big oval stocks, can you give me a close up shot of your rears, b/c it looks like you have made a square peg fit an oval hole perfectly, please let me know, thanks!

G-man, you live in Boise? That's totally cool - I lived there for about 6 months back in 2003, and really miss the area, especially the daily bonzai run to Bogus Basin.

                          Sorry for getting off-topic!

Hey man, don't know the part number right off hand, but just ask the people at the parts counter for the set of blinkers for a new XB9R, although I think just about every new buell model uses these same blinkers, and I don't know if you followed my install but there is no front/rear signals, only left/right, the front right = left rear and vice versa, need any other help let me know, I think I even have photos of the whole install if you need them, I only posted finished shots...
