    Chain Length

I need some help here. I've seen two different references for chain length and I need to know which one is correct and why the difference?

For RK chains the reference says 114 links.

For DID chains the reference says 112 links.

    What gives?

Stock geared Hawks use 112 links.
The chain comes in the box at 120 links. Get a kit wtih a master link, and cut off what you dont need.
Some people swear riveting the chain is stronger than a master link, but it is designed to be just as strong as any other link. Plus, you can take the chain off when needed.

        Are all DID's riveted?

Anyhoo, I picked up a DID from Hord and it's already cut to stock length, 112 links (he'll cut it to whatever length you need based on your sprockets).

          surfer,

Just be aware on mine, I bought a 112 DID with the same JT sprockets you bought from hord, now everyting works perfect but...

If you slack the chain to specs, with the 112 DID chain you will be in the "replace" area of the chain replacement guide...I know that everyone says 112, but I swear I think 111 would have been better, at least then I wouldn't have to have the rear so far back to get the right slack on the chain, I guess I could pop the rivets, cut the chain, and then re-rivet, but I just don't feel like it...
Damn right it's a Hawk GT

JD cut mine to 112 - maybe removing one more would be just right.

You take the chain out of the box....You thread it around the sprockets(Whatever size you went with, I recommend a 16 front and a 46 rear thats a 2.88 gear ratio over the stock 2.75)........you loosen the excentric bearing carrier all the way.... you pull the chain taught and grind off the links you dont need.......Thats how many links you need....
