    Will not idle

The bike worked fine, starting very easily and then I put a supertrapp can on there...It continued to work great untill a couple of days ago I went into the garage to crank it up and sat there for like 20sec rolling the gas. It finaly cranked and reved really smooth but as soon as I let off it died. Another guy who did the supertrap said he was running lean at 6 plates. I started with 6 and was way to rich. I ended up going to nine.(woldn't idle for either).Nine sounds perfect. It might be jetted???? because the person befor the person I bought it from commuted and had a muzzy put on..which I though ment a jet kit was needed. I dont know whether to try any adjustments myself....or if theres water in the tank or some gunky crap.... Just give any advice you can.

    Thanks

Has the bike sat? What are you using as a litmus for rich/lean (Smell)? If it ran really rich the plugs could be fouled. Do the plates on supertrapps mean (more plates less back pressure) and (less plates more back pressure) The only test Ive ever used for Rich or lean is by looking at the plugs the ceramic should have just a hint of brown(like coffee with cream in it) Now a stock hawks plug look to me just a touch on the lean side..The only way of checkin the jets is to take the bowl off the carb and read them. what does supertrapp recommend....Id say remove the plugs first if the ceramic(electrode) is dark and wet they are fouled....replace

There is an idle adjustment... As youre sitting on the bike reach down on the left side between the two cylinders behind the frame spar youll feel a small knob turn counterclockwise for more rpm and clock wise for less. the hawk idles at about 1200 rpm

Yes it has sat(however I rode it fine for a few weeks) and yes on the supertrapp plates. I will check the plugs tomorrow. Sounds like I fouled the plugs. Is there a way to know if the bike is jetted?

ok thanks on the adjustment...I'll try that for sure. I think its the plugs though becouse it was back firing like crazy (the unburned gas from one of the cylenders) and now that I think about it it reved nice prob. because there was only one fireing. As for the lean rich test I was using smell and the plates of the supertrapp get black if its rich and tan if its lean.

If it sat for a while...drain the gas its bad....also change the fuel filter(10-15$ if I remember correct) yeah what you decribe sounds like fouled plugs. good luck

This is just my .02, if it was running fine for a couple days on the supertrap I do not believe that is the problem. I too have a supertrap and have it at 6 rings, probably runs a little rich, but I'd rather be that way then too lean...If my bike was running fine and then all of a sudden wasn't, I'd be looking at probably some kind of fuel failure/contamination, have you checked the filters??? Has something happened to the choke causing it to stay on all the time??? Definately pull the plugs and see if 1 or 2 are fouled to hell, that will give us a little more info...
Damn right it's a Hawk GT
