Slight fuel/I am an idiot/ make fun of me problem

So I have started to do my mods for the winter, yes its not winter but i am getting ready to move and i wanted to get the mods done before i do! So I tore the bike down today just left the frame and front forks (will post pictures and do a write up later)

Anyway, heres the problem, me being the idiot I am filled up the other day cuz i had to ride the bike for a few days, well a few days of riding turned into one day, and now I have a full gas tank and need to take the tank off. (for the F2/f3 tank mod)

Anybody got any ideas how to take it off without drowning myself or the bike in gas? I dont want to put a tube it and suck the gas out but i might have to? Thoughts, ideas, criticism, making fun of me....go for it

    Thanks guys

When I had to take mine off for something, can't remember what, I just turned the petcock to off, that will stop the fuel from leaking all over the place, then if you want to get it out, put it over a container (clean bucket or something) and turn the petcock back to on, or reserve to get it all out, you will have to slosh it around a little to get it all out when it is really low...Hope this helps,

      hey thanks Jason!!!

I have turned the switch to off but the hose still has a some gas in the lines and when i was breaking the seal it started to come out, i was just nervous that a lot more would come out? Should there just be a little in the fuel line, or should I expect a lot?

No, not a lot, just turn the petcock to off, grab a good rag and stuff it under the line and pop it off, if you hold the line up none will come out, then either plug the line, or just let it drain into the rag (careful no smoking lol)

Pull off the hose and shove a somewhat sharpend pencil in it.

haha well i already made one trip today to the emergency room, my friends and I are heavily involved in building and tunning cars/race cars and we are building and LS7 powered rx7 FD3 (third gen)...any way, buddy grabbed some wires to jerk them out of the wiring harness, and well he jerked the wires didnt move, and the copper plugs (flat copper connector) sliced three fingers to the bone, it was nasty!!! sorry off topic but just totally funny you mentioned the no smoking thing, cuz we all smoke!!!

If you haven't gone so far as to not be able to start the engine you could turn the petcock off then run the engine until it stalls out from lack of fuel- and your lines will be empty.

Yeah, but wouldn't that cause potential tough restarting issues once it is all buttoned back up??? I have read that once it is out of fuel it is tough getting the fuel back through the lines into the carbs?

Wow creepy. My brother is buying a Ls1 powered rx7 and I did that same thing with the wires to my finger while working on my fourwheeler. Its like the twilight zone or somthing. :willy:
