    Season's over for me...

I just got back from a little trip and, suprise the aft cylinder head gasket is toast, oil leaking all over.

Any of you installed the 700cc piston kit, what is needed to do it the proper way and how much money is involved if I do the job my self aprox.?

Any comments on if its worth the time and money would be appreciated.

    Thanks

The proper method is to call JD Hord, after you check out www.hordpower.com.

I sent my motor to jd (hole motor) 700 kit ,rods, stge 2 port and flow, fcr carbs kitchen sink. I figured he has to do the boring and flowing just keep going. My bill was 4 grand +, but 80hp out of a 20 year old motor not cheep. The best part Jd is super cool to work with. He is kinda backed up right now (new Shop! )

That's a lot of money, but I can see it why. Almost 50% more horse than stock. Quite frankly, you're scaring me $$$$. I was looking for something a less agressive.

Anyway, I'm looking at all the possibility for now and thanks for th replies.

you can go 1mm over or 3mm over without a bunch of that cost. most of what Hord charges for (big money anyway) is hte head work. it's what sets his high HP motors apart. he's a whiz at heads...

but if you check his website I think you'd be surprised at what just a simple bore costs...

Didn't want to scare ya. fcr carbs 800 rods 700 head port 700. Jd will do mild build I just wanted wild. I figure I got about 7 grand in bike (not including bike)and im not done yet. it will be a blast to smoke a some new bikes with it. Head work on twins always pays back big. My ducatis had both of them done picked up 10 rwh on each. best money i ever spent!

JD quoted me $1K+ on a standard setup. I fully intend to take him up on it someday.

I did check out his web site, very interesting the problem I face is dealing with the Canadian custom. Sometime they can be a pain in the you know where.

Right now I am looking for somebody that know the hawk very well in my neck of the wood. So far I know one that might be able to help me out.

I was wondering, do you have to bore the top of the engine bloc as well as the cylindre or you just the cylindre itself?

And also my engine has 20000km on it, do you think I should redo the bottom end as well?

                  Thanks

Just do the head gaskets and valve seats. Then enjoy your fine bike in the, I think, amacing canadian nature (never been there yet) and buy another bike if you are after big horsepower.

I'm not after big hp, I was just exploring all the possibilities since I'm going in the engine. I would definitly buy bigger if I was after big hp.

And yes the nature can be quite nice up here, specialy in B.C., and all the eastern part of Canada. If you're looking for something different, try Quebec city.

Taking the engine out of the frame this weekend, and starting the tear down for some measurment, and if all is good:

                        1. 700cc bore kit(wiseco probably).
                        2. carb. jetting
                        3. unipod
                        4. head port and polish

And later on, I'll probably go for the cams. SVHUNTER your feever is contagious.

Fastenal, never heard of that, I'll have to check in the yellow pages. So far my plan is doing the most I can myself put aside the machining part of it. I wish to learn as much as possible thru this experience, I give my self the hole winter, and hopfully be ready for spring.

Thanks SV for all the help.

So far the engine is all appart and no big suprise, my big concern was the conecting rod small bore, and it still within spec..

I was wondering, what type of valves springs compressor works best for the hawk engine?

And what do you think of the Wiseco pistons? I search on the archives on hawkgt.com but I only found one comments saying that they're heavier and use a bigger piston to wall clearance than other brand. So far I'm looking at wiseco or JE pistons.

                              Thanks
