    Replacing Rear cowl?

    Hi,
Im thinking of doing some mods on my hawk, the rear cowl for one.

I was curious ito see if the hawk rear cowl is easliy replaced by other bike cowls. what have other people used on this forum and how hard was it make it fit.

I was hoping for something that doesn't need a lot of work to make it fit on the hawk, without drilling holes in the frame of the hawk.

Anyways, thanks for your help and hope I get some ideas

    Cat:
Most cowls are bike-specific. A few people have used Suzuki SV and Ducati monster cowls / seats / taillights, but that usually involves some pretty major surgery like fabricating a new subframe and/or seat trimming to fit the tank. I can remember a recent thread in this forum or the race forum, showing some nice products from Airtech, including two rear cowl options. Internal 'posts' that push into the rubbers on the subframe seem to be missing tho...
The 'Hawk butt' kit or a variation might be an alternative if you are looking for a cleaner (ahem)....rear.

-If Buckleys cold mixture went rancid......how would anybody know????

This the thread about the tank, seat mod:

You lose the plastic for the most part. A small Monster cowl/rear seat cover is all you have if you even go with it. I and a few other are curently working on these mods.

Also I have seen the SV650 conversion, Robb Z over on the lister did one. Didn't look to bad. But I personally like the stripped down minimal street fighter look and wanted to get rid of as much plastic as I can.

          thanks for the help guys!

with the solo tail section, by hiperform, do you have to buy the subframe that they show on the site or can you use the tail section on the stock subframe? Is Hiperform is an american company? Has any one dealt with these guys and how is their shipping like?

Thanks guys, now I just have decieded what route I should go.

Rod Holland is a long-time HawkLister and a good guy by all accounts. He runs Hiperform, which is an American company. With the exception of maybe that genius Durbahn in Germany, and Wemoto in the UK, just about anything made for the Hawk comes from small US businesses, I think. Small-batch stuff like my HawkButt kit, Robb Z's ally chainguards, or Billet Bill's creations... then there's Hord's shop in Bucyrus, Lenac's freakin' garage shop stockpile/warehouse/Hawk museum in Jersey... hmmm, Anybody know where Woodcraft is from? They make nice rearsets (but so does Rod!). It's an interesting question.

You can't use the stock subframe with a race tail, no, so you will need the subframe.

Another place to look is SharkSkinz.

I think that the Honda CB1 inline 4, 400cc has the same saddel as the Hawk, so the cowl can be made an easy fit to the hawk.

Well its a racing single seat cowl for the Hawk. It comes with no hole for the rear tail light. However I've been told its easy to create a hole.

Here is a picture of what it looks like on the Hawk:-

I haven't got it yet as it is made in Germany/Czechoslovakia
I might treat myself to an early xmas present.

That looks real nice, any website/info on the supplier or manufator?
I might pick one of those up for the track bike depending on the cost....
looks like it works nice with the stock tank and subframe.

You can mount about anything on the stock subframe, especially if you trim it behind the seat latch-but you do have to make spacers and DIY attachments.Airtech and Sharkskinz still make the RC30 and RS250 Hawk tails but many others will work with some creative bracketry and trimming around the tank. The main issue is really how it fits on the tank and much you mind or don't portions of the subframe are exposed. The Hawk seat and cowl fit much lower than any sportybike so you have to adjust for that.FWIW the Hiperform tail would look bizzare on a stock subframe IMO as it's so thin, almost the entire lower subframe spar would be exposed and it'd look kinda strange.
