    CR500 Radiator on a Hawk

I am trying to find a thinner radiator for the hawk to accomidate the new body work....would a CR500 Radiator be sufficient to cool the hawk...just one of them.....or i even looked at the VTX750 Aero radiator...its tall and thin....any help would be awesome

I honestly have no clue about this but I can always throw my opinion out there...
The CR500 in stock form was said to produce around 60odd HP which is broadly similar to a Hawk.
A big difference though is that the CR was/is a race bike so has no fan and/or hook up for a thermo switch.
Ive seen quite a few get hot sitting on the line at the start of an SM race so although it works it always needs good airflow and will probably overheat very quickly on a Hawk unless you had a very big fan on it...
I also remember somebody saying once that 2 strokes dont seem to put as much heat into the water as a 4 stroke hence 2 strokes taking a fair while to get up to temperature when its cold. That could be a wifes tale though...

Its gonna be a track bike, so getting hot is not too much of an issue, there will be a fan of some sort just to be safe....my main concern is the orientation of the rad itsself...the stock was cross flow, the CR500 is down flow...would either suffice? i was also looking into a 749 rad...its 16" accross to it will fit in my bodywork....just goota finfd one that does not require me to part with my much valued kidney....

Sorry TJ but there's no way (IMO) a single CR500 rad will cool a Hawk. What bodywork? The Tyga stuff? I have a ZX636R rad wedged into my Tyga RSW250 fairing. It fits... barely. I have looked at Gixxer Thou stuff but have been unable to get a width measurement. The newer ones with the trapezoidal rad would be the tits. I have looked into having custom rads made but it's hard to find anybody willing to do a small batch for less than about $400-500 a pop. I have a Sabre/Magna rad around the shop somewhere that needs just a little brazing work on the lower left hose mount. Those rads work pretty nice, will support 70+hp and are cheap.

Yeah, its the RVF400 stuff....RC211V rep.....I have 16" on the inside of the mids at the top which tapers of course to the bottom....i was trying to go as big of a rad as possible...i need to measure my 1000rr rad to see if that is a viable option

which year Magna Rad should i be in search of ?

my experance with the magna rads

flow requires no mods(inlet and outlet almost the same) mounting on the top side is the same and dimentions are = in lenght and width to a stock hawk but twice the depth i think mine is off a 86 i had the stock and had problems with it getting hot in stop and go traffic. well crashed it, popped the stock rad and wanted to upgrade. found it at the salvage yard for 20 bucks if i remember correct. well its been years and that is the only stock looking rad upgrade i have ever seen on a hawk and i know for a fact it works perfect. actually in cold wheather i had to cover up some of it just to get a good operating temp out of the bike.

just hope you can make it fit under the bodywork good luck

Let me know on that 1000RR rad, that was another one I wondered about.

                Here's a suitable rad:
