Oil from water pump drain screw! Help

    Hi,

I recently bought this Hawk GT 650 and it seems to have an issue with no cooling water at all. When I took the drain screw from the waterpump, oil started to come out.

    What to do

I'm not fimular with that problem, unless another member shows up with the answer...

Shoot Hordpower a email and ask the question.

    Good Luck with her !

Oil seal is prbly bad. Remove the entire water pump and replace the seal. Look at the diagram at web site below...item 11 and 12

No water in the cooling system ? Or just none in the overflow bottle ? Or did the water get into the oil system ?

There may be additional problems associated with the lack of coolant.

I'd recommend pulling the pump to see what you've got is in usable condition, impeller , bearing , housing etc. If good you'll want #4 as well

a recent find on UK eBay, was a aftermarket physical impeller seal., I don't know of anyone here that has used one yet and reported of their succes , and again , depending on if what you're left to work with if it's even a good option. JD www.hordpower.com sells the pump replacement , the cover is NLA

These pumps are 30 years old. Seriously? I would just replace the whole thing myself. It's not like they aren't available any more.

Thanks for your reply. I do always fix something if I am able to. Why swap the whole thing if I can be done with 30,-.

I prefer it this way. I'm also not sure if I have a leaking head gasket yet. So, before spending much ... I'll start piece by piece. (And I don't have a lot of money)

My thinking would be you replace the seal now and next year maybe the bearings go. I'm all for saving money but I hate having the bike quit on me. I've been slowly just replacing things on mine over the last few years and keeping the old parts as spares.

Was it hipster owned at any point?? If so, flush the oil out of the cooling system and refill with coolant, take 30lbs of pressure out of each tire, Flush the coolant out of the crank case and replace with oil. You should be just fine.
Don't spend money and buy, spend time and learn.
