Looking for somone who has, or can have access to a VFR800.

    Hi
I'm loking for somone who has access to a VFR800.
From what I can see visually, the splined end on the gear selector rod on these two bikes are very similar in size. I was wondering if someone can check if the gear selector arm from the VFR can fit on the splines on the Hawk shift Rod
If it does it would convert the Hawk into a GP shifter with out any linkage.

Here is a picture from Rogue of a VFR shifter mounted on an RC51
    Thanks,
    Ahmed.

Dunno about the 800 but I have used ones off the CBR900/1100.They work great but with rearsets-jackup plates as otherwise they're too long.Of course it wouldn't take much to trim one down and throw a bolt in to put the rubber on.I think the VFR750 ones might be shorter but I'm not sure.

I have a VFR750... I could check for you next time I'm out in the garage. I doubt the spline diameter changed between 97 and 98.

Yes,the splines are all the same - I'm just not sure if the VFR750 or 800 lever will work with stock rearsets but I believe it might.

I have a VFR750 shift lever on my Hawk. Works fine. I have the newer aluminum one as well (as opposed to the older VFR steel ones) and it looks exactly like the one in pic above.

Save about 1/2lbs over the stock Hawk linkage.

            Hi
I'm very glad to hear it works and fits.
How do you find the shifting, does it give you better control, does it feel more direct. Where is the rod/pad located compared to the stock linkage.
Does it clear the frame okay. Do you have any pics of it mounted on your bike I would like to see how it looks.

            Thanks for sharing.

It clears everything fine- obviously it's easy enough to change where you'd like it.There's not a huge change in how it shifts, maybe a little more postive than through the linkage.I admit,I went to it because the shifter was cheaper than replacing my mangled stock rod and linkage- and because it was trick...I don't have a problem changing from the bikes that are GP shift to the normal ones,it's just a part of each bike's character but I scribbled GP SHIFT!!! in Sharpie on the triple for anyone that borrows it.Actually did that at a Hawk rally when a couple people took off on it and went WHAA_BRUMPWHUUUUUHHHHHH off down the road

I found in racing applications that it shifted much quicker, smoother, and directly. It was noticible to me when every millisecond counts.

Bolt on and clearance not a issue at all.
