    Truck Woes

    After putting the new pittman arm in the steering does not self center when driving. It will like coming out of a 90, but on regular curvy roads, no dice. She STIFF.. There is also a little slop left to right before the steering starts to engage. But very small. A couple degrees at most..

    This is not a fun driving experience.

    I read a thread somewhere about the steering box getting damaged in the removal of the arm causing this. That's about all I could find
    Not gonna lie, the arm came out mother fucking HARD..

    Anyone ever had this happen?

    Depends a lot on how it was removed or possibly installed as well. If there was any pounding or pulling involved on the shaft against the body then yes, the sector shaft can really get messed up. Usually you can just get away using a pitman arm puller and then a nut to push them back in place but it also depends n the setup. Might be a case where you gotta visit a salvage yard to find a complete replacement box now, now knowing what the truck is overall.

      Yeah pickle fork you have to beat the crap out of it and put a torch to it the way to go is a ball joint splitter like this kit below I had the one in the upper right hand corner I gave to a mechanic friend of mine thought I could borrow it anytime I needed it and he left the island so much for that. https://orionmotortech.com/products/...YaAsoNEALw_wcB

        I have a Pitman arm puller, there is just no room for it in there so I used a pickle fork and a hammer. No heat, I didn't want to cook any seals in the box.


        Realized I missed a grease fitting when I put the arm on. Installed it and greases it but still no change. The damage may have been done already.

          yeah, unfortunately a pickle fork probably tweaked and damaged it. They are fine for the other stuff mostly but bad for the pitman arms. Sorry man.
