  • Fuel line replacement query

    Hi All,

Firstly yep I’ve read other posts about this subject on the forum so I’m not being lazy.

Just started work on my Hawk and apart from the petrol and rust combination that came out of the tank, all is as expected good and bad.

so I won’t to change all the fuel lines - Petcock to Fuel pump and fuel pump at least to the t point at the carbs but maybe the whole lot.

I have seen some posts that suggest standardizing everything using 5/16” ID fuel line plus filter of course and jobs a good one.

question 1 - Given that the OEM lines are no longer available, is the consensus that this is the best course of action ?

question 2 - Which specific make are people happy with that allows you to curve it round without kinking, is durable and available ?

As usual thanks to everyone for their help and assistance.

    Marky Mark

Are you using the stock airbox or are you using pod filters?

At the moment everything is stock but I plan to install a pod filter and jet kit before it goes onto the road (Probably the Hordpower one)

      Why do you ask ?

If the standard pipes are just age hardened and not damaged it may be possible to restore them. A solution of alcohol and oil of wintergreen does this very effectively - I have restored the carb intake rubbers to as new in this way.

if you want to replace the piping any fuel specific 8mm /5/16 ID hose will do. Just work out the lengths and routing as you go. If you want a transparent pipe - can be useful for diagnosing fuel problems - the hose from Tygon is very good although expensive.

If you use pods, you can change the direction of the Tee at the carbs and run the fuel line straight back instead of to the side. It makes it more efficient routing, since you're changing everything anyway.

Ah I see, that makes perfect sense ! Thanks for the tip, brill. If I did this would you just use 5/16” everywhere ?

Yes. The fuel pump, carburetor feed Tee and petcock are all that size. Keep it consistent by using a 5/16" filter and you're ready to rock.
