  • ignition lock

    does anyone here know how to remove the black plastic cover over the lock cylinder ? (without using a hammer ?)

    I did this once and im pretty sure all you have to do is push that rectangle down and the cylinder cover will slide off... but the key is in way, isn't it?

      looks like that piece will get destroyed when the work is done to remove the key.

        You can cut the head of the key to fit through the sleeve. A key blank is the more disposable of the 2 components.

            Very timely answer... working on a friend's Hawk and someone busted the fork lock and we are trying to replace the body from off the donor.

              I tried spending some time on the one I have and it isn't moving at all...

                ^^ nope, the locksmith managed to pull the key out with no need to remove the cover.

                in addition to the rectangular bit that parc mentioned, there two tabs on the bottom.

                  Yep... seeing the two tabs, but that doesn't seem to be what is primarily holding it in place.
                  Guess I'll keep messing with it and see if I can't get it to let go without tearing it up.
