  • F&CK!! Fork Caps!!!!!

Holy hell the caps were over torqued big time. nut stripped off fast and it took some cutting and chiseling to get these suckers off! Set of VFR preloads on route from Ebay for replacements. Delays riding by a week or so.

That's a pretty mangled set of caps if i've ever seen one. . . Jesus.

They usually come right off if you have a solid way to hold the legs..
Don't spend money and buy, spend time and learn.

I used a socket and breaker bar with them in my vice and they just stripped round, then tried a stripped nut socket, that just rounded them more, then I beat a smaller stripped nut socket and it just tore the aluminum off more, then the hacksaw slot and a dry chisel and hit them until they came free. Never seen tops on that tight ever.

OK so I just realized the caps with the preload do not have the upper spring seats with them so now if we want preload I need to order 2 of those. Anybody have a hack using a washer or does it have to be the spring seat from Honda. I can assemble the forks in the meantime and order the seats and install later but if a hack is out there????

If you can find a short bolt with the right thread pitch, you should be able to bolt a washer to where the cartridge rod threads into. Am I thinking of that right?

It would need to be a unique washer with a small hole and large OD.

You could also put a soild disc on the top of the spring spacer and push the cartridge stud down on it?

The aftermarket adjustable caps are essentially just big washers...

Yeah that's what I was thinking. I almost order a set of those but got used OEM Honda for same price. I have some washers I will play with, Worst case Ontario I order 2 oem seats for $20. of the bay. Thanks
