Well we got the seals, new signals etc. all done, Bike back together and rolled her out to the garage. Hit the start, nothing. Crap. Check fuses, sure enough the IGN was blown. Put a new in, and turn the key and POP we heard it. Sh!t we started checking, testing, tracing with the meter, all roads lead to the pump. Unplug it, put in a fuse, bike turns over, fuse is ok. Hook it up, POP!. well damn, it was perfect when we relocated it a month ago. Hopped on to the ol bay and a used VFR Mitsu is coming to Maine Mon-Tues next week. $30 shipped. No ride this weekend which sucks as Sat is going to be a cracker day but this will hopefully fix all the fueling issues this bike has had. I believe the cheap pump, came as a spare, was probably the reason for the air locking we were having and has now completely failed.

That’s a shame, so close and yet so far. The Mikuni vacuum pump is one way to eliminate future pump related electrical issues. Mine has been bulletproof since 2016 install. It’s downside is filling the bowls can take some time on the starter to get things primed. But once the juice is flowing, all good, w/no electrical issues…This forum is entirely dedicated to wasting time and money modifying a slow motorcycle. - joel

Bike builds can be and most time are art and expression. To take something mass produced and impersonal and make something personal that you can't stop staring at as you walk away. There is nothing I find more satisfying than looking at something cool and beautiful and thinking "I made that". - 6👍 2 -

He played around again with it yesterday and managed a 20 min ride ok. Still swapping out the cheap pump as it works until it doesn't but he was happy to get out on his own bike. He took my GL out earlier in the day and ended up dropping it in the drive as he was in 2nd gear and stalled going up the steep part LOL. He scratched my seat but bike and him were ok otherwise.Comment

Well the new to us pump came. Pumped and leaked fuel all over the place. The seam in the middle leaked like a sieve. I contacted seller asking for another or a resolution. Other than the leak it worked fine. I am not sure if there is an o-ring that can be replaced? I wrapped it in self fusing silicone tape and it's working for now.Comment
