  • 89 Hawk GT NT650 backfire

I was gifted a 89hawk GT NT650, it has the stoke exhaust but I believe the baffles have been taken out. Is there a adjustment I could do to stop the backfiring? And ask when riding and the bikes warm when I shut it off it’s takes a bit to get it to start back up.

I might be wrong but I don't think the baffles have been taken out. They are very, very hard to get off, you'd need to cut the whole thing apart to do that. So if it were to be the case, you'd see some obvious weld scars all over it and they would likely be very rusty because that would have taken off the chrome plating.

Usually when a carburated bike backfires it means that it's running too lean. Have that checked first, running too lean might damage your engine quickly.

If it backfires at or around start up, that could be a rich condition as well. I'd pull the carbs and give them a good once over.
