I'm hoping beyond hope someone has a Carrillo rod or two they might part with. Carrillo now requires a minimum order of four rods! It's getting nearly impossible to build a hawk up. Falicon cranks are gone, m4 no longer makes pipes, and now this from Carrillo. Does anyone have any ideas?

Group buy? Not interested in building something right now but this may be the only options we have moving forward. -

But, when the new workshop is done, I might be able to help you (and the forum) out with motor parts and exhaust systems (got a welder and the skills to use it).
Sorry I don't have better news. Similar story on my CBR. 900RR stuff used to be everywhere, but the industry has turned the page in the last few years.

I'll add that if someone lived close and was willing to trade labor for services and MC expertise (maybe some parts), we could probably work something out. I have a stack of machinery that needs disassembly and cleaning. The bane of restorations is all the scrubbing.Comment

I would have to defer to JD here. Conventional wisdom was that stock rods were OK for street duty and light track use, but most racers went to aftermarket rods back in the day.
Of the former race/parts bikes I have bought, 3/5 came with a modified stock crank with aftermarket rods. In lieu of real data, I guess that says something.

Also deferring to Hord, but would it have to do with the rods being lighter to reduce reciprocating mass?Flock of Hawks | '13 Tacoma | '69 Falcon (currently getting reassembled!)
I've spent most of my money on women, beer, cars and motorcycles. The rest of it I just wasted.Comment

It seems to me that if it's correct that the stock crank is the weak link in the NT650 bottom end that fitting Carrillo rods onto the stock crank is a waste of time and money. They aren't going to fix the weakness of the crank and may well be ruined if it breaks.Comment
