  • Maritime's 88 restomod

Alright, so here is the 88 we picked up. got it home and then left town to help a family member pack and move so done 0 so far except a quick look. Brakes are seized so they will need servicing, plan to do a full service on all systems, cables etc. I pulled the slides up on the carbs, one snapped right back, one was still stuck up after 24 hrs so pulling them for a clean and inspection. the tail section is broken/cracked/loose so will be pulling that for repairs and prep for paint. The new tank should be here by end of the week. Aftermarket can, no label so no idea make/model but PO says it sounds good, we'll see.

pics and more to come as we dig in. 20220306_190349.jpg 20220306_190315.jpg 20220306_190402.jpg 20220306_190330.jpg

      Nice! Subscribed.

Depending how many mounting tabs you are missing it may be worth looking into one of Fabians cowls. Those tabs can be very hard to get back on in a way that will last for a meaningful amount of time. But there are also many that have been successfully repaired. Worth giving some thought to.

Looks like a great basis for a build.

Thanks, got a link? May end up with a monster seat and tail too. Pretty much all the top bolt on tabs are broke off, not sure where else it attaches but it wiggles all over and is not solid at all right now.

Those are where it attached, and the two front pins that press into the rubber bits, those may be gone too.

I'll dig up a Fabian thread when I get home.

Thanks I found the group buy threads. I'll see if I can fix the current or if too far gone it will be a Fabian or Airtech, or the monster route if my son likes that idea.

For my son we wanted a solo tail. I don't want some 16 teal old girl getting thrown off the back.

Rules here is he can't have a passenger for 1 year min then needs to remove restrictions with a road test. Cleanest carbs Ive started with in probably any bike. Won't need much. 20220307_174729.jpg

first major purchase after the tank. Hordpower pods and jet kit to remove airbox as everyone here says we need to if we want the F2 Tank to fit when it arrives. jetkitpackage.jpg

Progress today. All the lights work. the cowel is jank and broke and was held on by bailing wire etc. Need to decide what to do there, repair, replace, go monster or other. Carbs are in the redneck ultrasonic which is a pail of pinesol with a sander duct taped to it to vibrate all the gunk out. Once cleaned, rinsed and compressed aired out we'll set them on the shelf till the Hordpower bits arrive. the jetting database is golden for starting #'s for the jets and air screw. 20220308_172500.jpg 20220308_161555.jpg 20220308_161549.jpg 20220308_161546.jpg

Ya... Believe it or not, lots of hawk cowls look like that.

Monster seat is a cool look. Rs125 too.

be careful not to soak the carbs too long, not more than one day.

This could help you decide on the cowl.
