This is where I’m at as of now with my 89. Looking for a change in color on the fairings that are currently coated in primer and I was wondering how you guys are going about getting a good finish on that older plastic. I’m discovering these fairings are really hard to find in good shape so I’d like to save the ones I have (although a fastener hold down or two is cracked/missing, they still hold tight even at hwy speed). Aside from a mild sanding, base coat and clear what can I do to assure it comes out well?
Other than that I’ve been looking into a fresh exhaust system on it so any leads on what’s available for these bikes that’s direct bolt on would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for reading!!

A quality paint job is all about the prep work. Take your time, smooth and clean, start with a light coat of color, then two more medium coats so you get good coverage. Repeat with the clear, and if you go with more clear it’ll help you not go through when you’re wetsanding.

I've spent most of my money on women, beer, cars and motorcycles. The rest of it I just wasted.

Man! I haven't seen a Neon in like a decade! That's some combat kit on there!

69Falcon I sanded it down best I could before priming the way it sits now. Couldn’t stand it being apart for long so I put it back like this so I could get some seat time on the warm days. But the plan is to sand again, prime again with the same self etching stuff. Let it dry again, sand and then start laying a couple of base coats until I feel it’s laid down well enough for clear.

tian647 thanks man that’s my pride and joy! Lots of work done to it. Aiming for 450 at the tires soon making about 330 as it sits

Heh, some time last century I used to autoX a 1st-gen ACR coupe. There was nothing like 330, wheels crank or paired with a twin, but it got the job done pretty well!

I've been told that if you whisper Neon SRT4 5 times in a mirror melmsrt4 will appear. I'm not sure what he'll be doing but you've been warned.
88 Blue Hawk GT - Under construction but rideable (guest approved)
89 BlackHawk 2.0 - On the lift and being assembled

The gf thinks the targa screen looks “weird” but I don’t care I like it and it serves a purpose lol.. Delkevic exhaust will be arriving soon and I’m going to pint the front fender and rear cowling black this weekend. Along with replacing the sight glass in the master. Big thanks to Joe Nelson @ V4dreams for the parts. Any and all input is appreciated. Would love to update the headlight but the best I’ve been able to come up with so far is an LED H4 bulb. It’s a lot better than stock so I’ll settle with it for now, at least I can see decent enough to ride it confidently at night!

I hate to be the guy that says it, but your girlfiend's right. Nothing looks good with a Targa screen....

I'm sorry, it had to be said. Those things are kind of an abomniation for some of us so I'm just giving you some good natured ribbing. It's your bike and obiously you can do what you like. It is good for blocking wind I am certain so there is that.

If you have the original lenses or even aftermarket ones Duplicor makes some smoke translucent spray "wrap" made specifically for what you are wanting. You might try it on some old broken lens parts and see how you like it first but it should peel off if you do not. Saves hunting around for something that has never really been made (as far as OEM stuff for the Hawk) and then when it gets beat up from bugs and rock chips you can peel it and respray as needed. I imagine you layer it on a little like most other spray "wraps" and stop when you are happy with the darkness level

It's a look that you either love or hate.

The Tyga is not for me, I don't love them.

But I love 80s Thunderbirds and think Dodge Daytonas are absolutely epic. There are plenty of people that would tell me I'm straight up wrong, and those cars look like hell.

But I give no fucks, because I think they are cool and that's what matters to me. I care not what other people think is sweet, as long as I like my stuff, I'm golden.

Don't spend money and buy, spend time and learn.

Maaan the more I look at it the more I love it. It also makes me feel like cagers can see me better having that bright red out front. A lot more solid than I ever thought it would be even with a good crosswind it doesn’t budge. I’m stoked to see it when I finish the paint and get the delkevic shorty pipe on it, my current exhaust is a rusted eyesore. I’m definitely going to try tinting my stock signals and see what that looks like.

I have the Delkevic shorty. It's just below obnoxiuos in sound level. I like it but my son who's bike it is on would like it quieter LOL. As for the Tyga, it's functional and not terrible.
