The new guy with the odd looking Hawk

Hello everybody, I am Jeremy from Massachusetts, and I was recently hunted down by stevenjhow and told that I needed to join this forum. As at turns out, he was right, I DID need to join this forum.
So... here is my 88 Hawk GT

I bought it as a basket case on eBay for about $700 ish a few years ago. It was missing the gas tank, the entire tail section, the headlight brackets, and tons of misc little parts. Over the coarse of a New England winter, I slowly but surely built the bike to my liking.
    A few things I did.....
1)I made a visor for my headlight out of steel (no bondo or filler of any kind, I hate body filler.)
2)Swapped to some different clip-ons from an unknown model bike
3)I bought a dented tank, and fixed it and painted it viper yellow with pearl white stripes.
4)I built the entire rear tail section from 1x1 steel tubing and fiberglass. I used two 1964 impala tail lights as my tail lights and directionals, and got some sticky padding for a seat.
5)I am sure I did other stuff, though I am drawing a blank at the moment.

Nice to meet all of you!!!

    -Jeremy

That's the sickest tailpiece I've ever seen on a Hawk. Where in MA are you? I'm in CT and I'm having a BBQ/Wrench Day this spring.

Really glad to have you on the forum!

Post those pics to the email list at www.hawkgt.com (the original "forum," been around since the year God and has all the hardcore oldschool Hawksters) and watch their jaws drop. Jo Coring especially.

Thank you everyone for the kind words. I really appreciate all the positive feedback. As odd as it sounds, I am almost getting bored with the look of it . After seeing some of the creations on hordpower.com, it makes me want to start fresh. Though, I don't know if I could take apart my current setup without shedding at least 1 tear. I will definitely do some other stuff to my bike first before changing anything drastic. I have always thought about doing a fork/front end swap of some sort, but it always seems so expensive.
The good news is that I pulled my bike out of the shed today and I am going to start playing with it again. It needs a SERIOUS cleaning, a few spots of touch up paint, and other misc stuff before the nice weather comes. I will be sure to post any updates. I think I have a lot of reading to do though, this site is full of stuff that I had no idea about.
                  - Doc - As for my location, I am in North/Central Massachusetts in a small town that you have probably never heard of, about 3 minutes from the NH border.
Thanks again guys and feel free to ask me anything, because I will be bugging all of you.

Click on "mailing lists" in the upper left. Click on "subscribe."

And yes, either get a separate email addy or subscribe to the "digest" mode.

Forget the seperate email address, its too much of a hassle, subscribe, then when you can log in, got to 'subscriber corner' and choose digest mode (one email per day) and you can also choose to not recieve NHC - non hawk content, NMC = no motocycle content, and others...
I'd leave the spam though, sometimes some good deals come up on the list.

The best deals on Hawk parts (and whole Hawks) for sale come up on-List. You'll frequently hear people say things like "...for sale for $3000 on craigslist, or $2500 to a Lister." We look out for our own -- and, I'm proud to say, the Forum seems to do the same!
