    From a BROS 400 in Ireland to a BROS 650 in Japan.Addiction?

I just moved over to Japan 4 months ago with full intentions of upgrading to a litre bike as soon as possible. I got a BROS 400 back in Ireland mainly because it was learner legal and didn't whine and scream at you like the 1/4 litre inline 4's whilst doing 30 mph down to the shop. Little did I know how much emotion they squeezed into that little package, a few trips up and down the length of Ireland and I was hooked. Now I understand those three magic words "light, flickable twin".

Side by side I reckon the BROS is one of the most beautiful bikes ever put into mass production. The sculpted metal, single sided swing arm and the clean simple but sharp lines of the frame put most plastic fantastics to shame in my books. I still can't get over that it's coming up on it's 20'th birthday.

On looking for a bike over here I was mainly looking at VTR's and SV1000's until that is a BROS 650 caught my eye. It's all I ever wanted, a BROS with a bit more power.

Anyway yap yap yap. Down to business. I'm glad to see such a large community that appreciates the BROS for what it is.

I'll go ahead and thank anyone and everyone that has and will contribute to the wealth of hawk gt resources on the net. I've 5 long months of being snowed off the roads so plenty of time to tinker with everything that can be.

Also anyone know anything about MORIWAKI exhaust as the previous owner has installed a full system. I'm yet to find out what else he has done to it. but i'm going down to check it all out on saturday.

I'm getting a dyno run done on the bike before I buy, what should i be looking for in the curve i.e. is there anything that can give me a clue as to how well the engine is running etc. what kind of hp should I be expecting considering it's a 1988 with 26000 km's ( excellent condition however )

    welcome

sounds like you got the same problem i have
    honda twins are the shiiiiittttttt

give it 6 months and you will then think the 650 is not enough. then maybe in a few years you buy a sv1000 or a rc51 and ride that bike for a short time and realize the hawk is more fun to ride. you will find your self riding the 650 bros more than the 1L bike. thats the problem im having, i wish my hawk was in working order so i could take it out. but i got a 05 rc51 sitting in the garage allways ready to go.

Its hard to find the perfect bike but it sounds like your on the right track
    (that not a pun either)

anyways enjoy the new ride and do your self a favor and dont sell it when you start looking at 1L bikes again.

Not knowing what has been done to your bike, it is very hard to say what it will do on the Dyno. Twins should have very nice straight and even torque and HP curves. No spikes or unmatched curve shapes.
JD Hord (Hordpower) in this forum, has a website with all sorts of Dyno charts showing different stages of Hawk 'evolution' If that does not give you a good reference, nothing will. The man knows all there is to know about a Hawk (Bros)
-sorry, dont know kow to post a link - help.
-I'm sorry....I did not know she was your sister.
-If Buckleys cold mixture went rancid......how would anybody know????
-Dont piss off the quiet guy with the chain saw.

Welcome! Most of us leave Ireland for somewhere with better weather!!

I might be over exaggerating a bit. this winter has been the warmest on record and I reckon I'd have rode in 70% of it (at maybe half throttle though). I'm most definitely an all weather biker as I had been in Ireland but when there's a foot of snow in your path the story changes. Still though, Ireland gets cold, but not enough to facilitate the winter sports so when the bikes off the road here i'm on my snow board. It's a give and take situation. Maybe a skidoo would be a good idea just to got my motor fix

Anyone know of a hawk gt V-Twin skidoo?

Also I'm going down on saturday to give the bike a full check before I hand over the money. That's where I'm hoping to get them to dyno it first so i'm not stuck with a BROS making less than 40hp. I reckon a flat looking curve and anything up into the mid 40's Hp and I should be happy. I don't know if the bikes got any jetting or intake work done to go with that Moriwaki exhaust yet though although i'm assuming that you don't pay for a moriwaki without getting the rest which costs a 1/4 of what the exhaust does. If there is it's a bonus and if there's not it's a project in hand.

Pics will be up as soon as I get her back home, snow permitting that is.

P.s. thanks everyone for the info on Mr. Hord. When does that guy get time to sleep. Thank god we have people like this guy who are willing to post this kind of golden information for all hawk owners to use and abuse.

Some pics of the new bike.

Definitely some work to be done. I won't ever be selling this one so i'm sure she'll see many transformations. First up is to get rid of the fugly screen, factory 3 jetting and some unipods to make use of the moriwaki exhaust which as is puts a ridiculous smile on my face with the slightest twist of the wrist. And most importantly some race tech emulators to let me use the hawk in the way it begs you to. Any other suggestions are more than welcome. The handle bars are likely to go for some clipons but i'm gonna try them for a while anyway.

Douglas : the pad was on the bike when I got it so i'm afraid I can't be much help to ye.

Fabitappi : I didn't even realize they weren't stock wheels, I just new I liked them and assumed that they were stock on the japanese 650 Bros. Definitely gonna be doing a paint job at some stage, possibly matt black.

Jaysunone : Read my mind, emulators and springs before any engine mods.

LeftRightLeftThrottle : The bar risers are kinda working out well for me right now. At 6'3" , I don't feel overly big for the bike as I did with a Bros 400 with low clipons. Getting rid of the screen this week, I think it ruins the look of the BROS especially with the bars,

On the self portrait, I had two pictures, the other one had me in both mirrors, I was too lazy to take another so I posted that one.
