My 3-year project for my wife!!!

So here is my 3 year project....
It started out as a theft recovery, no bodywork, no tank, left laying on the railroad tracks (literaly).
Now, GSXR 1000 front end with radial mount calipers,
Aprilia RS250 Bodywork painted to resemble Rossi's RS250 with Hybiscus flowers,
    Jim Davis Carbon gas tank,
    Jim Davis carbon/glass RC51/Hawk tail,
    RC51 LED undertray,
    Fox rear shock,
    corbin saddle,
    all braided lines,
    anodized frame and swingarm,
every bearing in the bike has been replaced,
I got the engine from Jim as well and I believe it has megacycle cams but no other work...I'll probobly be sending it to Hord this winter and have it completely gone through....,
    M4,
    VFR Rear wheel,
    Still alot more to do....

                Joe,
Is that a VFR750 back wheel?
                The 5.5" one right?

Ive just got mine fitted, with much hassle and dremeling of the wheel to get it to fit over the brake disc nuts.

The BIG question though is how much clearance you have between swingarm and wheel?
I have less than 1mm at the tightest spot and I think I will relieve the swingarm a touch so that the wont be any contact.
                is that what you did?

                Cheers,
                Marc

Yep....she'll get to ride it...but so far she's afraid to scratch it so I'm the only one who has ridden it so far! The tan Ostrich leather wasn't my first choice but it's what she wanted...The guys at Corbin hand made that saddle for the bike, they even put mold release on the tank and tail section and formed the seat pan, and all in about 6 hours! I'm looking for a stock Hawk for her to gain confidence on...then move over to this.

Yes it is a 5.5" VFR rear wheel...I have about 2.5mm of clearence between the wheel and swingarm and about 1mm between the 170 Michelin Pilot. I have done 1 track day on the bike without any visible rub on the swingarm without releaving any material. I I chose to round of two points of the nuts instead of grinding on the wheel...works just fine as long as you use a 12 point socket

                      Super slick, very nice work!

Was the tank a custom job or are they being produced? (googled Jim Davis, there's a lot of them!)

I don't think they are in regular production anymore, but a couple of years ago some cropped up. IIRC they are larger by being wider than stock, vs Kiyo's tank being taller. I'm pretty sure he was also incorporating kevlar in the lay-up...

Jim Davis was the guy behind the hawkconnection and motomorphic....If you have seen the SV650 with the Hawk swingarm and MV Seat and exhaust...that was one of Jim's customers, he's a really talented guy......I ended up meeting him on a Ducati board and the conversation turned to Hawks.....He sold all of his inventory off shortly after I purchased the parts from him....the tank is wider and taller and has kevlar in it. The tail is a cross between an RC51 and a Hawk race tail....you could probably make one with a little bit of patience and a race tail from either bike
