I know this is a dumb question, but is there an easy fix for the off-idle stumble?

What off idle stumble?
Is your bike stock, as far as intake and exhaust?
If you go into the Mechanical and Technical forum, you will find stickies at the top with jetting info, and lots of other helpful info too. Most of the questions new hawk owners have can be answered there or in the hawkgt faq/knowledgebase. There's a link to that in one of the stickies. There's also http://www.factorypro.com/tech/carbtun.html for a step by step how-to jet.
In all of that information, there are several different carb settings, for different intake and exhaust options. Find one that is close to yours and see how that works for you. You don't necessarily have to buy a jet kit either. It's maybe easier if you do, but you can buy main jets from most dealers, they're pretty cheap, and you can shim the stock needles with washers.

Thanks...the bike is stock with only 3,000+ miles on it. The "stumble" is probably the same as described by others, ie, when opening up the throttle. I can live with it since I don't ride the bike often or aggressively (a combination of age...68...other bikes....other activities which consume my time.....I know, you don't accept excuses either!). Also, I've not got much in the way of mechanical ability.....and what little I had was scared out of me by trying to work on my Vincents.

I consider myself lucky as I've seen a few Vincents since I moved over to England. There's an annual meet of vintage bikes at the Cambridge Steam Museum, saw a fair few pull up there, and get ridden away after. Lots of respect for anyone on one of those.
If it's stock then your best bet is the 'poor man's jetting'. It's easy enough to do, and hard to get wrong. You'll need to pull the carbs and partially disassemble them. See here for the settings: http://www.hawkgtforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=726 and here for a parts diagram of the carb: http://hawkworks.net/hawkfiche/carbu...omponents.html You'd be interested in the Needles (#16), Main jets (#25/26) and the Pilot Screws (#5)
Let us know if you want more info on this.
