    Hello Everyone,

My name is Gray and I just wanted to say hello. I just picked up my 1989 Hawk yesterday and I think that I am in love. I have not been able to ride it yet, I had a bad car accident early this summer and still have not been cleared by the doctors to go riding...but what they dont know wont hurt them Anyway...little background on me, I have raced cars since i was 15, drag (at an actual drag racing track not on the streets) moved into ITA/SCCA run offs, have built and raced around 7 different types/classes of car. Had over 18 or so road cars that should have never been on the street ...but this is my first time i have ventured into two wheels on the street, i have been Dirt Bikes most of my life....

I had some questions if you dont mind helping me out. I have searched and need some direction...

    1. I want to add Clipons and get rid of the stock handlebars, I have read on the forum about Vortex, Clip-ons, LSL and other alternative brands. Outside of ebay what is a good website to buy parts from? As I am new to Streetbikes...

    2. I need to replace the rear shock and spring. As I read all the threads I notice that there seems to be a swapping of newer/different model honda suspensions...are there any threads that give a run down on shock/spring combos. I want to raise the rear end up a little bit too, as I am 6'0 195 i bottom the bike out pulling it in the garage

    3. I read about some other things that i have questions on but I will save those and not over do it for my first post.

Thanks guys for the help, looking forward to learning a great deal.

    Gray

p.s. if anyone is interested there is a black 89 for sale $800 down the road from me. It needs work but i have seen it run up and down the road a couple of times before he started working on it.

only paid 1500 bucks for it...as I was reading the ad I noticed the name. It was my god brother. I had not talked to him since his father passed away 3 years ago...it was fate i guess.

Greetings from over the mountains (H'burg area)- keep in touch, there's a lot of beautiful riding around here, and you're not that far away.

Hope you're healed up & riding soon, take your time & be careful adjusting to street riding- you've got a great first bike to do that with. I rode recently with a new rider in the C'Ville area, he was doing great & riding sanely.

I haven't heard the Honda-swap shocks being much of an upgrade, only if you're really crunched for budget. Talk to Steve Lenac about options, he's a great guy and wouldn't steer you wrong:

The bike looks great, but are those stock tires? Check their age if so.

Check out www.hawkgt.com for an e-mail discussion list there as well, lots of buying/selling/trading and advice going on there.

Thanks RC31 for the comments -

The rear tire is new, the front tire needs to be replaced starting to show signs of cracking.

Riding on the street is going to be a huge change for me...riding on the dirt well i am pretty much insane to say it nicely...so I have to get rid of my old bad habbits...

The chain needs to be replaced, well if feel it does and i was reading a great write up on how to do that but i cant seem to locate it again...anyone have the link?

So its Day two of owning my bike, and well damn the doctors.....i havent driven my car in two days if you catch my drift.

The bike is so much fun, I really need to replace the chain and the tire is a Dunlop for RC31...dont know the model. It just says Dunlop on tire.

Anyway, I have had the bike for two days and here is what I am ordering:

Vortex Clip-on's, and cables to go along with the mod
Monster seat ( going to do the mod in the winter when the bike is down)
new mirrors - haven't figured out what I want (suggestions welcome)
                  I have a new chain
New Wheels have them already(going to paint the old ones)
                  etc....

                  I never leave anything alone
