    Greetings to hawkgtforum from motorcycleman!

Hi everybody! Please alow me to introduce myself...

I'm entering my 31st year of riding but new to Hawk ownership this past summer. I pretty much live to ride and being from Vermont that means I can only dream of riding for about five months through winter. Not that there isn't a bike or two in my garage that needs some winter attention. Which there are: an '89 Harley softail custom (bad bearing cages?) and my hawk, which is a former racer getting back on the street. So far I have replaced a few cosmetic bits and gotten it fired up to do a few smokey burnouts. My wife wasn't psyched for me to buy another bike but when I spied the hawk (I know what they are ) for a grand in the paper I knew I had to at least check it out. When I did I could see clearly that someone needed to rescue it from near certain death as a lawn ornament so I picked it up for a mere $600, snuck it home and hid it in the garage for a week. In that time I sold a vfr500 project bike and got the wife to accept that I was really just trading up. or sideways. Anyway I like the two carbs over the four of the vfr, much easier to deal with, and they both need work (plus I like the hawk better

The hawk is an 89 and runs pretty good- I don't know what if anything was done for racing to the internals but I know that it raced at Loudon so maybe some of you have seen it before. The choke cable doesn't move but it starts anyway- is this a race thing? To put it on the street I need new rubber, a chainguard, some work modifying the clip ons I bought (so the controls can clamp on) and basic checking on everything. Since I've owned it for months now it would seem I should have it on the road already. Alas my life has been way too busy for bikes lately. Truely a sad thing, and obviously I need to look at my priorities. Anyway I'm looking forward to meeting up, maybe the Loudon race weekend things next summer (btw if you are coming up and like bikes do the week of father's day in June- Laconia is just up the road and is one of the big three rallies.

Hey welcome to the board. The most prolific poster on here is from VT, so you're lucky there.

As far as the choke goes, just pull the tank off and have a look. The cable can get caught where it exits the sleeve, and that can cause it to not move.

A HAWKER!!! IN VERMONT!!!! No way! Did you buy my brake light off me? If this is not that guy then that makes 3 Hawks in Vermont.

You are in luck my friend, I have 2 hawks in my garage that I am putting on the track and Scott has some street parts... (I bet we can talk you into going to the track though )

Call me, We can discuss. Where in Vermont are you?

hey man, welcome!!! you'll definitely have to swing by loudon for a race weekend or 2, there are more than a few hawks that inhabit turn 1 on any given race weekend

          Thanks

          Hey Doc and Scott,
I have been reading the forum for a few weeks now but due to some snafu was unable to post until today. Thanks for straightening that out Doug!

I've been reading all about your race hawk, Doc- looks like a fun project. I will definitely have to ride down to Loudon for some race weekends to cheer you on. From your tail piece picks I can see you live on the hill- is that main street or maple?! Maybe we can just meet up and do some bench racing (or try my ps2 tourist trophy game- if you haven't tried that yet it is awsome)

I love the hawk! because, basically I'm just a hooligan at heart

Hey isaac- you should get a prise for the most prolific newbie poster! Wicked wheelie shot too- I see you photo shopped the red tail cowling off!

I'll post a pick when I can get a chance to up load at work (phone dial-up sucks!) Mine has a black fender, red tank and white tail. And Doc, there must be three- I don't have the real tail light, jut a funky screwed on one (the tail has no hole! ). I've come to kinda like it. I'm nearby in Westford
