Hi everybody! Please alow me to introduce myself...
I'm entering my 31st year of riding but new to Hawk ownership this past summer. I pretty much live to ride and being from Vermont that means I can only dream of riding for about five months through winter. Not that there isn't a bike or two in my garage that needs some winter attention. Which there are: an '89 Harley softail custom (bad bearing cages?) and my hawk, which is a former racer getting back on the street. So far I have replaced a few cosmetic bits and gotten it fired up to do a few smokey burnouts. My wife wasn't psyched for me to buy another bike but when I spied the hawk (I know what they are
) for a grand in the paper I knew I had to at least check it out. When I did I could see clearly that someone needed to rescue it from near certain death as a lawn ornament so I picked it up for a mere $600, snuck it home and hid it in the garage for a week. In that time I sold a vfr500 project bike and got the wife to accept that I was really just trading up. or sideways. Anyway I like the two carbs over the four of the vfr, much easier to deal with, and they both need work (plus I like the hawk better
The hawk is an 89 and runs pretty good- I don't know what if anything was done for racing to the internals but I know that it raced at Loudon so maybe some of you have seen it before. The choke cable doesn't move but it starts anyway- is this a race thing? To put it on the street I need new rubber, a chainguard, some work modifying the clip ons I bought (so the controls can clamp on) and basic checking on everything. Since I've owned it for months now it would seem I should have it on the road already. Alas my life has been way too busy for bikes lately. Truely a sad thing, and obviously I need to look at my priorities. Anyway I'm looking forward to meeting up, maybe the Loudon race weekend things next summer (btw if you are coming up and like bikes do the week of father's day in June- Laconia is just up the road and is one of the big three rallies.
