Hi all, just bought myself a Bros 400 project. Also own an NC30 and a Daytona 675.
Want the Bros as a gentle, comfortable ride for when I don't fancy cramp from the nc30 or Daytona!

Got a few plans for the Bros. Basically overhaul the mechanicals and a good general clean up and then a new tail unit /seat (wondering of a CB1000r seat might be persuaded to go on?) and some fresh paint.

Any advice for a newbie to the Bros most welcome!

Welcome aboard! We have a few members in the UK and scattered across Europe as well.

Best advice is to tackle the maintenance first, and make sure the chain isn’t too tight. Watch the video from Gino on setting it.

I've spent most of my money on women, beer, cars and motorcycles. The rest of it I just wasted.

Just got back from collecting the bike. It needs quite a bit of work but I feel confident to tackle it all. First job, a thorough wash.

It doesn’t look too bad and fairly complete. Is it a runner or at least a potential runner?

It looks quite standard too - except for those horrible looking holes drilled behind the headstock. Would they be for a fairing?

Has it done a big mileage?

                        It runs, just.

Needs a seat unit, front mudguard and undertray but I'm thinking I'll Fab something. Everything else seems to be there as you say.

No idea about the holes. I'd assumed they were stock? For fuel tank mounting.

so far, the jobs list is:

                        Rebuild forks
                        Service brakes
                        Fit clip ons
                        Oil and filter service
                        Overhaul carbs
                        New tyres
                        Repaint tank
                        sort dodgy looking wiring
                        Get an MOT on it

I've never noticed that the plaque on the frame is a description:

                          "V-TWIN WITH PRO-ARM"
"I couldn't afford NOT to buy it!"

Its a pity about the state of the tank. When I started cleaning mine up, I found that it was full of pin holes in the bottom, with just the paint keeping the fuel in.

No just the middle hole for the tank.

I recently got some Bros wheels on EBay from a chap in Manchester who was planning to get rid of a lot of other bits - maybe worth investigating for any missing bits that you need, such as tank rubbers, if they’re missing.

Are the seats/seat fairing/undertray the same across all model years?
