  • New Member/1st Time Hawk Owner in Mississauga Ontario

    Greetings!
Very happy to have been directed to this group on the recommendation of another member.
I've just pickup an 1988 Hawk in great condition that's had a few mods done to it. I will be converting it to a race bike over the winter to race in our vintage race association (VRRA).
The current plan is to have all prepped race bike to 2022 season and then see where i want to go from there with the bike. I look forward to extracting some great info and guidance for the group. The first of which is whether or not to loose the 8 spoke VFR wheel to fit a 160 back on the bike. I've just started to read the multiple threads that have talked in detail on this very subject.

Welcome! You missed your chance to put your bike pics in your first post... shame. You can never get that back.

You could sell the 8 spoke and purchase a 5.0" rim and still have a quite a bit of money left to fund other things. Jus' sayin'.

    Cheers!

Haha I was going to add a pic, but I screwed up and read the rules before hand..."This section is dedicated to new users. Tell us about yourself, we're all friends after all, right? Try to put pictures in the members rides section instead of in here so it doesnt get too jumbled up, that way when you mod your bike you can add to your thread in the members rides section"

Thanks for the suggestion, that may well be what I end up doing.

Welcome and congratulations on the new potential race bike!

For the budget minded the 5" vfr wheel is a great option. First a 160 or 165 like a glove. That's what I have had on the majority of my race bikes and what we have on the race bike now.

Even with some of the lighter "actual" race wheels like the old technomags 5" was the go to size.

Start a thread on her, it will be fun to follow!

If you have a build plan or map layed out post it up so we can gaze in respect and awe, or tear it apart

Just messing with you. But do post up.

          Welcome!

Am I correct in assuming that the 5" wheel requires the same or similar modification of the spindle? If that's the case I might be able to use my existing spindle...

The VFR wheel requires a modified spindle.
You can mount a 160 tire on the stock rear wheel.
