  • New member, second hawk GT from California

    Hello,

My name is Joe, and I live in the SF bay area,

I've had an 88' hawk before, but it got wrecked in an accident a few years ago. Just bought this nearly stock, beautiful condition 88' a couple weeks ago. It's got the stage 3 jet kit with Uni's and breather, and Muzzy exhaust, and bone stock otherwise. My intent is to turn it into a fun canyon carver and track bike.

Looking forward to chatting with people here, lots of cool hawks and mods out there.

    Thanks,

    -Joe

    Welcome.

    You don't have stock bars.
The mirrors aren't stock, either, by the looks of it.

Thanks, oh yeah forgot about those. I'll be changing them out down the road anyways.

If you're keeping the stock tank then consider stock bars. Or something else that will not hit the tank in the event of a crash. Tanks are precious and only getting rarer. Yours looks great.

Even with the change in exhaust and bars it still has the charisma a stock Hawk has. Upgrading forks with GVE and RTec sprints and a rear shock will keep it stock as it now looks.
          It in very nice shape.

          Welcome to the forum

Hexenwulf! What a cool name. Welcome to the Forum. So ... what do you want to do to it in terms of Mods? Here in L.A. I couldn’t help but take my grey stock Hawk and add some bling DDE0F2C3-5350-48B6-8402-B5C6A828D910.jpg 77355B08-75C0-4D95-8933-F36F75F0FE63.jpg Always interested in seeing the grey ones done with a creative flair,

Thanks! That's a sweet looking hawk! I love the tail section, what bike is that from? I'd like to do something similar down the road, but those subframes are impossible to find. Right now I want to keep things relatively close to stock, but get the bike in shape to be a sharp street bike and do track days.

              Looking to do;

              Nitron rear shock
Front end; at least GVE and RT springs, going to talk to Catalyst Reaction tomorrow about trying to mod some cartridges into the stock front end
              SS brake lines
              Sintered pads
              New rotors
              Nissin radial master
              Tires - probably Dunlop Q3+
              Ignition advancer
probably remove some emissions stuff since it's a CA bike
I'd like to get an M4 race mount exhaust, but no one sells those anymore sadly.

Few other things here and there, maybe a low handlebar instead of clip-ons (got used to having a handlebar from my CB1000r haha).

Not sure if I want to swap wheels, I like the agility of the 160 rear, but love the look of the 5 spoke VFR wheel. I might play around with a front end swap down the road, but no rush to do that.

Still doing a ton of reading on the forum, parts are getting pretty scarce nowadays. Had some luck buying a fender eliminator and chain roller from a forum member already, so that was lucky.
