  • Newbie from Philly

Hello. Thank you for including me in the group. I recently acquired a “88 Hawk GT and am enjoying riding it and learning about it. I play with cars in the SCCA and am learning about maintaining cool motorcycles through my Hawk as well as a CB500T and CT110. I live in the greater Philadelphia area.

    Thanks for having me.
    Richard

Welcome aboard. There's a wealth of knowledge here, and we are glad to help with advice and parts. Send us some pictures of your bike.

Because you are a car guy, you should know that Dan Gurney had a favorite Hawk GT.

Thanks for the welcome. That’s an interesting Dan Gurney insight. I always liked his Alligator motorcycle concept. He’s even cooler too me now that I know he liked the Hawk GTs. I will post a few pictures on the Member Photo site. Hope you are heading into good riding weather this weekend.

Dan Gurney's Hawk was listed on BAT for something like $5,000 after he passed a few hears ago. I don't know where it went.

It was probably a California bike with all the smog equipment, although I imagine he might have fixed that.

The Alligator was a brilliant idea, and no major manufacturer picked up on it. Honda should have. By getting the rider down out of the airstream, he improved the aerodynamics and lowered the center of mass at the same time. Today, there are a few scooters which have taken advantage of the concept.

We have a few other members here who are involved in auto racing, and they will reveal themselves when the time is right.

It is cold and wet on the West Coast, so no riding in the foreseeable future.

Welcome aboard! You aren’t too far from me for the CTHR in august.
Flock of Hawks | '13 Tacoma | '69 Falcon (currently getting reassembled!)
I've spent most of my money on women, beer, cars and motorcycles. The rest of it I just wasted.

              Thanks for the great welcomes.

Ziggy: The bike I purchased was a very well cared for and documented ~40k mile bike that lived in the York (Dover) area at one point. I noticed in your bi-line similarities, so maybe this was yours at one point. If so, compliments to your stewardship of it. I currently race a Spec Racer Ford (older model). I wrench on it as much as race it. This area has a lot of tracks within a reasonable haul. SCCA weekends are fun and friendly events, and I am always happy to help bring new people into the fold. Would like to hear about the Restomod at some point too.

69Falcon: The CTHR looks like an awesome event (and not that far from Watkins Glen). I am definitely pencilling that one in.

              Take care and good riding.

Since pictures were posted I have added a 5 spoke VFR rear wheel, replaced the front brake master cylinder with one that is stock
in appearance and installed a billet aluminum rear caliper torque arm.

Welcome to the Forum! SCCA are great guys to hang with no doubt. I almost became a “clubber” but found track time through production car clubs, Ferrari, Pantera, MG, Porsche and Jaguar owners groups was enough for me. I did own an old Eldon FF, but never campaigned it. Two guys saw it in my garage and made an offer I couldn’t refuse. I regretted letting it go, but now realize it was for the best.

There are a lot of car guys here. But this is where we talk and play with Hawks!
