Better than your average SUV clearance. And let me tell you, if you google "best 4x4" you'll get no hints, at least I didn't find any clue what they were.

Its hard for me as a dude who will never own a brand new car to get too excited about most of the new cars.. .

If a car has modern styling, that will be old by the time i would ever get my hands on one, if its got the latest tech, that will be outdated. If its luxurious, that will be long gone, I dont care about those things. They are temporary.

If it has a platform that is rock solid and sturdy. If it is designed to do ONE thing really well.. If it is going to have an flowing, an aftermarket and has game changing "bones" that's cool, cause in 15 years that shit will still matter. Will it be easy to work on and tune?

I feel like the FJ ticked those boxes, some jeeps do, my E-350 diesel van for sure does. Eric, your little Mitsubishi does.... . Whats Cool about the bronco besides it being a "new" bronco?

What's the next FJ or SJ or AWD Eclipse with a 4g63 or the next e36, or supra with a 2JZ (no the new supra is not the next supra at all)... Shit even the Civic hit game changer status in the 90's... No one will be modding 2018 civics in the future.

What is new that will have some staying power?

Question is: will it be sporting aluminium body ?

and which is longer lasting a steel or aluminum body ?

2017 F-250 (Aluminum) Super Duty. In 2015, the F-150 became the first pickup to have an aluminum body and aluminum bed bolted to a new high-strength steel frame. ... For 2017, the entire F-series Super Duty pickups now have the same military-grade aluminum and high-strength steel construction, saving up to 500 pounds.

I want a small truck that seats 4, gets 40mpg and can haul 1 Hawk. The Subaru Baja was close but bed too short, no cigar. So NO, the New Bronco is of no interest.

But for those who know the original Bronco design, I have a Bronco story. In high school about 1964/5 I worked at an equipment rental yard after school. One day my boss drives in a new Bronco with no top and canvas doors. He tosses the doors in a scrap pile. That week he turned the driver's seat around facing backward, moved the stearing colume, brake, gas and clutch in front of reversed seat and then a huge hydraulic claw arm welded to the back end frame with controlls placed up by the driver seat. It became a walnut tree shaker used to grab the trunk of a walnut tree, shake the crap out of it which made all the walnuts fall off. I never saw it again. I don't have a picture.

6 I get what you're saying. I respect the FJ for its capabilities but something about it just doesn't quite do it for me. But I'm excited for the new Bronco because what I've been seeing and reading makes me think it might actually be a really good truck. I'd love for it to be something like a mix of the Grand Cherokee and the Pajero. There's a very good chance I'll be disappointed but for now I'm still looking forward to the chance that it might actually be awesome. We'll see soon I guess.

SPA well it's likely to be a steel unibody structure but I'm hearing that most of the removable/hinged stuff (hood, tailgate, door skins) will be aluminum.

Growing up in the back of an original FJ40, the new FJ is quite nostalgic for me. I have not been able to really try it out on the trails, but it seems very capable and has not backed down from anything I pointed it at. It is based on the Prado/Tacoma frame and drive train, so it has good bones. A lot of people don't like the lack of visibility out the back, but since I drive truck that has never been a problem for me as I use the mirrors.

As far as the new Bronco goes, I think that it is super cool. I have always had a soft spot for the original Bronco/Bronco II trucks. I have seen some beastly builds over the years based on the old box. Old trucks like the Bronco, Scout, FJ40, CJ5/7 are in a class all to themselves and I would love to own any or all of them.

Funny... Elmer just bought a second silver 2004 Dakota. This one with a bad motor to go along with the silver 04 Dakota that has a bad transmission. Why? You ask? To take the trans out of one and put it in the other... No, you would be wrong in assuming that. "Because when i fix them both i will have two 4x4 trucks" he says... Solid logic.

So to you i will ask the question that i didn't dare ask Elmer.

                              Why?

I reserved a First Edition, realized I wanted a Badlands (wash-out interior with drain plugs in the floor FTW), and haven't bothered cancelling the First Edition reservation yet.

I also thought it would be a funny response to such a silly statement.
