Lots and lots of men have lost fingers and hands during oil drilling.
Not to mention the countless broken bones and serious sprains from the work.

We had a compressor base that weighed 6 tons(12,000lbs) flip off a dolly and crunch a nice dent in a bay door frame. We had to bust out the crane truck to put it back...
Back in my misspent youth, I worked on a bridge repair crew so I worked around steel beams, jackhammers, cranes, hoists, welders and all sorts of stuff that could kill you.
Luckily, I escaped with all my fingers and toes although my back will hate me forever.
