Some of these dudes.... This is more an exercise in social engineering and i guess, "reverse social engineering" ?? than a super technical caper. It's fun. Some of the lower tech hacks are really the most fun.

The weakest link in almost ANY computer network is its users. Just as good practice you only want to give your users access to exactly what data they need to do their jobs and nothing else, minimize the impact if that user is compromised, or if the user itself is malicious. Looks like these "scammers" didn't learn that lesson (though i dint watch close enough to see if dude actually got full access to the network)

If you really want to spend some time with a deep dive, there is a podcast called Darknet Diaries, some of the older ones are the best when dude covers some legendary hacks, but there are also a lot of physical pen testers and social engineers he talks with an covers.
