  • **NSFW** Wear your gear kids!

Well it happed today. My first street fall. 100% my fault lol I’ve been riding for over 15 years and should’ve never allowed this to happen. Riding my big bore z125 on brand new street tires. Left the shop way too hot and hit a corner at 55mph and the front end complained washed out. I made the corner way too aggressive!

Flew over the bike and dragged my knee across the tarmac. Stitches and road rash for the win. Went to the ER and got it flushed, X-rays and all and sent home.

Was wearing my full alpinestars jacket luckily and a full face helmet. 100% gloves didn’t do so well haha

so wear your gear! I’ll be investing in proper riding pants now and not jeans.

Glad your good man!!! Those new street tires have some coating on them that need to wear off.. not like race tires where turn. 1lap 1 you are good to go.

I'll tell you a quick story.

2003, I was working at a shop called RPM in Savannah. We had a 929 come in, polish the frame, paint it yellow (everyone painted everything yellow in the early 2000s), put new tires on it, and frame sliders.

Customer came to pick the bike up, I went out back to get it. I started it up and went to ride it around the building, I hit to throttle leaned over on brick which I had done 100 times, and down the bike went and I watched it slide across the road.

Thank God for those frame sliders, we ended up telling the customer that we had to install a used set, and that his new ones would be in soon but we wanted to get the bike back to him ASAP so he didn't miss any more of the season. There was no other noticeable damage..

The kid got on the bike. Drove out of the shop. And I watched him hit the gas in a straight line and that thing fishtailed down the street, but he managed to keep it up right.

New street tires=no fun for about 50 miles.

I'm glad you're okay with it and just got out of it with some trophy road rash. good gear is worth it's weight in gold.

Thanks for posting. These are important reminders!

OUCH! Glad you are on the mend
I found that during the healing period, I’d reflect on what I learned, and vow to never again repeat the experience.

Glad you walked away with minor stuff. Crashes can suck.

Got hit by a deer side on back in 2015. ATGATT was why I'm alive but even in full gear a- leg can't take a 200lb deer and 550lb bike sandwich. was 6 months and 4 surgeries to get better. 3 plates and 27 screws were in there for 3 years and had to come out in 2018 because they had antibiotic resistant staff on it and constant infections flaring up. once removed and 6 weeks of 24/7 IV Vancomiason pumped directly into my heart I was infection free.

That looks awful and I'm too scared to make those thumbnails any bigger. ATGATT is how I almost always roll and this will remind me for some time to come to not fcck around. Thanks for sharing your hard learned lesson, and I hope you heal up quickly.

Ouch, heal up and get your self some MX knee shin guards for casual riding, easy to take on and off.
