Her life hasn't been easy, and TLC is a must. Have her torn down a bit now to address the cosmetics. Amazing that at nearly the same size as the FZ07 behind it (fair amount more weight, but you'd never notice riding her) she is >2x the HP and nearly 2x the torque. What a wonderful engine.
I think it has a lot adjustments in frame geometry. The swingarm pivot and maybe the triple has eccentrics to move things around. Lots of knobs to turn! Jealous!
This bike flat out shouldn't be legal (and the newer versions are surely even more potent). It will stick around, if nothing else, to be setup for rare track day duties.
Recently Dekwan and I went on a ~250 mile ride full of twisty Sierra Nevada roads. Photo below is of him telling me he's going to take all his old relic bikes to GTFO (rode the most tasty 4th gen VFR from SLC to Reno just the day before). This particular sample has been well used, and abused, by previous owners. Doesn't really matter - it's still a manic bike with power just absolutely everywhere, brakes and handling to match, the crack cocaine of motorcycling in my opinion. The sound, feel, and pull of the engine flat F'n rocks. I can only imagine (for now) what the newer models are like - and have placed 2021+ in top 3 of my short list...should I pull that trigger this one may go to another home, and then again may not. It's always good to have a spare bike for friends when they visit (ahem - JB? slo1?).
This morning I should be getting ready for a ride - but instead I'm unloading thoughts through my fingers. I'll ride tomorrow - get chores done today - and will probably take the Ape when I go.,
