  • Which bike would you get?

    Craigslist got me again!

So, I have a chance to pick up another bike. Missing in my stable is a fuel injected four sport bike.

    Bike #1:
2001 F4i. rebuilt title (likely just cosmetic), 16k miles, runs and starts good, a few dents/rash/cracks, owned 10 years, new tires and chain. 1.5 hr drive. Always wanted these as they are the best 600 in the lineup. don't really like RR. should be a good reliable bike when I feel the need. it's like owning an Accord though.

    Bike #2:
2002 954rr. clean title, 44k miles, runs and starts good, bad 2nd gear (Owner believes its the fork not the gear - stays in 2nd at low throttle/speed), needs tires, lower body is replaced, 1 hr drive, owned 8 years, not ridden for 3. this bike will be dangerous for me and might injure me badly. more exciting than the 600.

both are asking $2000. 954 is flexible.

waiting to hear back from initial inquiries.

Leaning towards the safe bet bike 1. Bike 2 is a risk in more ways than one.

I would stay clear of a bike with a gearbox problem.

I have a red/black F4i gas tank in my cache that's in great condition.

I wouldn't take either but out of the 2 the F4i sounds much better to me.

I may tap your shoulder on the tank. The tank on there has a dent. We'll see. Same color though!

Agree on the gearbox. Fixable and the result would be awesome! But then approaching 60, I should be more responsible!

I'm feeling it too. I gave the ad a week or so. I was hoping someone else bought it, so I wouldn't be tempted. But it's still there. Maybe meant for me to grab it. We shall see by Friday.

Yes indeed. Anything with gearbox issues, I run the other way. Plus, I'm the same way...letting me near a liter bike is like letting a toddler play with an untrained, unmuzzled pitbull.

                        Erick. You DICK!

What one do you choose?? between my TWO favorite bikes of all time?!?! That's what you would like to know? I feel violated. That is an incredibly insensitive question to ask. Its like asking who i prefer, my wife or my girlfriend. There is no real true answer without offending someone deeply!

But for real, f4i is a bit better of an around towner then the rr imo. Take the giggle factor of the throttle out and i prefer riding the f4i over the RR in general, but you can not go wrong there on either. . Its also been 10+ years since i rode the two of them back to back. Both are fantastic, golden era Hondas and will be unobtainable classics one day.

Choose wisely sir. (i want to ride whichever one you get)

Don't spend money and buy, spend time and learn.

HaHa! A man of similar taste strikes again! I get it! That's why I posted. Its almost a toss up. plus I wanted to start conversations. Well, easy pick now. The rr is sold. still waiting on F4i seller. I hate waiting on email. I get 3 responses then nothing after trying to ask for his cell or make an apt. I have a feeling it might be sold too.

It's almost a toss up. What that comes down to for me is overall riding enjoyment vs Giggle factor. The 600 is more enjoyable to ride. It's super confidence inspiring, comfortable, predictable and just an easy bike to ride and to ride fast. That said, they both are and it's hair splitting here.

I think if I where in a road race against myself on most roads I win on the 600 purely because of how confident I am on those things. Easiest bike ever to ride fast.

But the rr, man, the pure fun of trying to get the back tire to lite up coming off an exit ramp, well that's a lot of smiles in that one moment.. lots of grinning to be had with that lump in there.

Hard choice, especially if you need to go find new examples to pick from!

I would probably get the F4i between the two. The 900/929/954 were hit hard by the squiddie crowds, so I'd expect those engines to be on their last leg one way or another. Neither really do it for me though.
