  • Dodge Challengers Anyone? ?? ?

Cary over from the SN95 mustang thread, because we didn't get a mustang,, I started a new thread.

With CJ"s extra budget, we went out mustang shopping and found expensive, clapped out JUNK... We had a appointment to see an auto, v6 2008 mustang with 160k miles for 10,500, and i was like this is ridiculous.

So we switched gears and started looking at some of our local dealers. There is a gentleman about 1/2 mile from my house with a HUGE lot, he has been there since i was in high school (in the late 90's) and he deals only in "rebuilt" title cars.

    We found this. .. .

Its got 71k on it and is a really nice car for the things that matter to me. I found the repairs (which was important to me, i dont want a flood car, or something like that. Go in eyes wide open), It was hit in the rear, driver rear quarter, deck lid, and entire rear end where replaced, they did a good job mechanically, seam sealer work looks great, body lines are dead straight, and the paint work is passable (its white, passable is good enough on white)

its damned quick, quicker than i thought it would be.. drives great and its nice inside.

anyone have any time with these things? ITs a 2013, base model, auto with the stupid thing that used to be the Dodge "auto stick". ...

When we first started this endeavor he wanted a challenger, i was like "way out your budget kid" so when we found this i couldn't say no to the kid.

Right out the gate to me, the car is a little tall, and the wheels a little skinny... Other than that i think it looks dope.

It won't be his last car. You got to start somewhere. This should be fine till it isn't, then next car. Repeat over as life goes on. Besides car cost, he now gets to learn about license fees and tire costs, maintenance costs, gas costs and insurance costs to name a few. Lots of learning ahead for him. Learning can be fun. Wishing safe motoring for him.

It's his second car. He had a jeep Patriot, but a tree fell on it.

My mistake. Great, He learned some car things already. Long life ahead=more learning about cars ahead.

He did. I learned don't park under the trees in. A wind storm, unless you don't like your car and it's insured. That may be quite literally the only thing he knows about cars at this point... Haha

I don't know those charges at all. But I want to find some simple mods and stuff that I can do with them to try to teach him a little bit about mechanics.

We'll probably end up doing a stereo but he's going to have to save his pennies. Because every time I try to design a cheap little car audio system I end up spending $3,500.

i think very few young men are capable of resisting the urge to go too fast too often with extra-powerful cars.

i think chuck knows what can happen.............

Well luckily, with any Chrysler/FCA/Stellantis product, he’s gonna get the opportunity to learn to wrench!

After all the work it will require, he’ll really appreciate the comparative ease of maintenance of… any other brand

Honestly, I love/hate challengers. They are so cool, and really a value speed. They are also squidmobiles (or whatever the car equivalent is) and don’t hold together well. That looks like a nice one though!

                It is, and it ain't.

Mechanically it seems to be in really decent shape. Which is my main concern, and at 71k miles hopefully we have some time before major repairs are needed...

But... Luckily, it's white. The cosmetic repairs they did are, ok... Fine for a white car. If it where any other color you would be able to notice the repairs, for sure.

Also it's got some glitches already (new this on the test ride) interior lights, the push on/off ones don't work. Flash quick when you push them, but never turn on, rear bumper cover has a rattle when you bang on it, sound deading over the pedals is not secured, the push to start feature doesn't work, you need the key to start it, the lock unlock key remote doesn't work (that probably just a battery).. . little shit like that.

Hopefully we don't get into anything major. Is there a common point of failure for these things?

And luckily, CJ is far to nervous to do any squid shit.. he's a nervous type of kid.

The key fob battery may be the root of both the push button start and the remote unlock not working.

Nice, look into the micro switches in the push on/off lights, they go bad, are easy to change but fiddly to do. they shit the bed in my Pilot every 18 months or so and I gave up replacing the eventually as they still work as dome lights when the door opens but no longer turn on with the push.

You can usually get the batteries at auto parts places. Stealership wanted like $50 to put a new battery in my daughter’s key, I got it for a few dollars and did it myself.

The batteries in fobs are usually standard button batteries that are available from many sources such as Walmart.
Battery will have a ID number on it.
I own Mazda vehicles and they use 2032 batteries in the fobs, same battery as used in a Trail Tech Vapor speedometer.

Also don't touch the battery with bare fingers, the oil from your skin will cause it to discharge 10X faster if you do. Button Cells are picky, use a glove.
