  • Dream car day!!!!!!!!

My entire life (well since I was 3 and when in 1985 my dad bought an 84) ninth gen T-Birds have been the coolest thing in the world to me. And the coolest ninth gen is without a doubt the turbo coupe, and the best year 87/88... Best color, and the color of dads, black and the coolest part of the TC, you could get it with a stick....

Thanks to frinesi2 having found this on some weird forum, yesterday we drove to righeslville (or some shit) pa, loaded it on Him's's trailer and towed it home..

    IMG_20230402_001845.jpg IMG_20230401_175551.jpg IMG_20230401_190137.jpg IMG_20230401_175522.jpg

He needs some Lovin... But I'm stoked!!!

Turns out, parts are VERY hard to find and the forums are not very active these days, but here he is, safe and sound. Black on black, fully optioned, 5 speed,1987 turbo coupe... MY black on black, 5 speed, fully optioned, 1987!turbo coupe..

.the coolest part, the door code on this car...
    99511

    951!

    I'm not even kidding.

Congratulations! I hope it proves to be a rewarding project.

Growing up, our neighbors had seven kids ranging from a lot to a bit older than me. The youngest one saved all his earnings from putting up custom hay and hired-hand work for several neighboring farmers to buy his own brand new Ford 7700 tractor and an '87 Turbo Coupe much like this one. I remember thinking he was the coolest guy on the planet! He was to me, anyway.

I also thing they are as cool as can be.

To a lot of people the Buick Grand National was the coolest car to come out of the 80's. But ford did the turbo luxury muscle car first with the turbo coupe. And the TC handles way better, came with a 5 speed (which the GN never did), had stuff like electronic ride control and a bunch of other stuff.

And I just think it looks cooler than the GN, with it's good scoops and aggressive nose... Most people disagree, but I think it looks so cool.

Nice, good luck with the parts search, I hope there are cross reference parts that will help. I'd love to do a car project someday but they are $$$ over bikes so won't be anytime soon for me.

I have a long history post on T-birds from back in the day, but that is too much to type right now...

Because firstly I have to comment how funny that Dream Car day is a crusty old 80s Tbird, not some kind of a Porsche or worst of all, a new Corvette. Totally in character for you 6!

it is an exciting day nonetheless, if you get a unique vehicle that is awesome to you!

Congrats on the new family member. I know its not a Hawk but hopefully you will have a thread on it or at least some updates every once in a while.

Congrats dude! Too cool. Love the hood and nose too. And a 5 speed... wonder what the percentage of auto vs manual on those were.

ITs not hyperbole. My dream car of all dream cars is and always has been a black on black 5 speed TC with all the options (minus the auto and the sunroof of course) .

I did stop and spray it off...

                  Couple shots of it home..

Trying to wonder if there is any way to save the original paint above the molding. the interior is actually pretty nice, it needs the arm rests but other than that its good.. Even the headliner.

Driver side has a few rust spots below the molding line, but they are not bad. If i still had my shop i could do them in a weekend... But i don't, so i have to make a plan here.

From what ive seen the majority where auto, but the survivors are about 50/50. Seems the manuals where preserved better.

You COULD NOT get the ninth gen t-bird in a 5 speed unless it was the turbo coupe. People have retrofit the t-5 into some of the v8 cars, and swapped v8's into the TC. But the only real one was the turbo coupe. And these things can get smoking fast with some psi applied and some small mods.

Kinda surprised they didn't have some kind of trunk spolier, like the 80s Monte Carlo SS

                            Congrats on the new toy.
Hopefully you can still find the needed parts to get this thing back on the road.
Being as it is an 80's car, it is AACA eligible and you may find some great leads on parts and advice should you join the AACA and peruse their forums.
You don't have to join the AACA to use their forums but it is worth it to support the organization if you use the forums and get what you need in terms of knowledge and leads on parts.

I go by Zepher on that forum.

Hey Andy, 2 weeks ago I picked up a 1987 Turbocoupe so weird coincidence. It needs some interior love as well as clutch and engine love. The PO had just done the brakes and brand new tires but he also did the turbo upgrade so all I need to do is the TLC. cleanup, and see what other motorside upgrades were done.

I'm going to fix it up as a daily beater but going to replace the carpet and do some noise reduction stuff before I put the new carpet in just to help reduce road noise as much as possible. Also the carpet was nasty AF so it had to go, lol. Like your;s mine need some arm rest love and bolster repair on the drivers seat. I saw a video on youtube for mustang GT seats on how to do that repair so if your's is worn in and bent let me know if you need that video and I'll try and find it to forward to you.

You might check into a detailer that can do paint correction and maybe they can help with the finish. I know mine has that sun faded paint as well, but its that maroon red color and looks like it might do well with some correction.

Congratts on your TC. It's always been a car I lusted after back in that time as well.
88 Blue Hawk GT - Under construction but rideable (guest approved)
89 BlackHawk 2.0 - On the lift and being assembled
90 Hawk GT (color as to yet be determined) - Still on the shelf in crates
