I am just thinking that those numbers are a little high for RWHP.

        Hord would know best.

add some 28mm valves and you'd probably be close....but then you have to think about reliability.

My thoughts exactly. it might spit its guts out if you wring it too much.
What was the start of all this?
When did the cogs of my Hawk begin to turn?
Perhaps it is impossible to grasp the answer now,
from deep within the flow of time...

But, for a certainty, back then,
I loved it so much, yet hated so many.
I hurt others and was hurt myself...

Yet even then, I rode like the wind,
            whilst my laughter echoed
            under cerulean skies...

Your goal of 74RWHP is completely reasonable and should be reliable.

I would suggest that you save your money on knife-edging the crank. Also determine a realistic RPM for the crank balancing and not somewhere up near redline. JD can do a set of heads for you that will yeild good port velocity and get a good radiused valve job while your at it. I have used the stock valve springs with even the steepest of Megacycle cams and have always had good results. Don't forget to have your cams slotted so that you can optimize your cam timing (or as optimal as you can get with a SOHC motor). Also if it's a race bike and you want to pull the charging system that is your choice but leave the starter installed, you won't suffer any power lose and will always be able to start the bike.

With a careful build/setup you will have a nice broad tractable motor with a torque curve like a tombstone. Remember peak HP is great for drag racing and dyno bragging but your goal should be total area under the curve on your dyno sheet since that's what makes a good race (or street for that matter) motor.

Don't listen to these guys (they are just sour grapes) it will make mid 70's and it won't blowup.

btw: won`t it cost a freakin` fortune to tune the thing to such an extent?

If I had stopped with those simple and inexpensive modifications I would consider my hawk to be a bargain!
