  • No Motorcycles on Pikes Peak hill climb?

I typically watch Pikes peak competition once a year but I don't really follow it the rest of the year and it was just made aparent to me yesterday that there were no motorcycles there this year and this was a decision that they've been contemplating. why ?

Anyway I believe next year is the 100 anniversary and for god sakes they need to have motorcycles there.

September 23, 2020 The Board of Directors of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb has announced that the decision of whether or not to include motorcycle competition in future years will be postponed until after the 2021 race. In July of 2019, it was decided that in order to determine the long-term viability of the […]

It may have something to do with the death of Carlin Dunne.

I hope they allow motorcycles to race again, as well.

It seems the PPIHC have been assessing motorcycle competition for several years. I think it was four or five years ago they instituted a rule that all bikes have tubular handlebars as opposed to clip ons as a way to legislate sportbikes out of competition. KTM didn't mind, obviously, and Ducati essentially said hold my beer and entered the V4 streetfighter with Carlin Dunne. Like owl said, Dunne's crash and passing made the organizers step back and reassess again. I really hope bikes return to Pikes Peak, but I'm not going to hold my breath waiting.

It's okay. We don't let no stinkin' cars run at Isle of Man. So there!

Unless it's a demo run. Search Youtube for Subaru Isle of Man. In 2016 someone in a WRX did a 20 minute lap for grins and giggles (roads closed if course).

If you believe the chatter, the PPIHC heads hated bikes and didn't want them to run. Now they have an excuse to ban bikes from the hill forever.

Then there's the chatter that people complaining that the marshall communication and track oversight is non-existent, and lots of hostility towards anyone who criticizes the organizers. Multiple mile plus stretches where you could set up a circus tent and no one would know. Y'know. Good ole boys club stuff.

This is stupid as fuck. Did they stop racing when there were car deaths?

Colorado Springs guy here . . .They lost 2 riders at least , and I think a 3rd one in the last few years . You gotta admit not very good survival odds for a bike off of a mountain .
As I recall Carlos was a MAJOR safety guy , and very involved in that program .

It looks as if the organizers put a fork in it. No more bikes.

Organizers of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb have decided to end motorcycle competition at the annual race event.

this is what Ive heard as well. It honestly sound like something everyone should be happy about. The IOM has more than 500 marshalls for 200 corners. I cant find one thing about safety, track marshals, or corner workers when googling PPIHC. I think their decision to end motorcycle participation, rather than increase what they can do to make participants safe, tells you all you need to know about the organization and what they think of motorcyclist. All the riders are willing to take the risk to ride there. PPIHC is not willing to accommodate them however.
