    Doc's Classic weekend race report

As the only one flying the novice flag in the 1a pits (not to mention AmI? Racing) I felt a little added pressure to do well and not crash.

    Race #4 LWSB
I run this and LWSS for tracktime.
Grid on the front Row in A, Thanks Pre Reg!
I don't remember much of this race, chaulk it up to nerves I guess, I was on the ass of a Blue and white SV (Ken Howard #215) most of the race and I just couldn't get by him and make it stick, I think I remember passing him twice but he would get me back, definately something I have to work on. I carried more corner speed but he had motor and would gap me on the straights, I would be all on his ass going into 12 but he would just power away on the front and I would have to make it up again the next lap. Good race though and I went and congratulated him after the race, was the kids second race weekend.
Finished 11 of 23 for the race and 4th of 7 in my class.

Race 9 LWSS (more track time)
Again grided on the front row in B this time, Get an OK start and I think I was in 5th or so going into turn 1. I get passed by an SV on the back straight but I go up the inside in 3 to take it back, get passed again in 4-5, get through the bowl and get a good drive, I am on the butt of an SV but he gets a better drive and gaps me a lil into 8, I stick close to the tree house and point straight for 9 when ZOOOOM! #720 takes me up the inside going into 9. I am a little startled (it was a clean pass, just close ) and I swear "Fuck, Cynthia, that was close" and I laugh as I go a little wide in 9 and try to stick with her. No dice... she is gone in a flash and I settle in to try to click off some laps, I know there are more SV's behind me and friggin motards!!
I am not sure where it started but I got passed by an SV (#215 again!) I think around lap 5 or 6. I was starting to feel tired. I tired to stick with him but he stayed in front with some lappers getting in my way and not his. Had to settle for 9/26 and 8/13 in class

    Race 13 ULSB (My Race)
Again Gridded front row in A, 2nd wave, First wave goes off with a roar. I am lined up next to a TZ250 that I know I am faster than (had him in practice), I look back and there is a friggin motard gridded behind me (frick). I decide to just hold onto the throttle deep into 1 to try get some good speed through 1, 1a and 2, I get an ok start and expect to get passed before 1... I don't, and go through 1 in first!!! FIRST HOLESHOT!! Start talking to myself No time to celebrate, Head down, don't look up at the guys on the trailer, be smooth, someone is gonna pass you coming out of 2... Nope!!!! First into 3... Holy shit! WTF?! Don't look back, try to nail 6 to keep at it, good drive up the hill... where the fuck is everyone???? Don't look back! come onto the front tucked in for all I am worth, don't look back it might ruin your drive. Someone is gonna pass you.. NOPE!!! Go into 1 and look up at the trailer for some kinda sign from the Crew, THEY ARE JUMPING AND CHEERING!! Wow! Go around 2 and look back 3/4 of the way to 3, Guy on the TZ is just coming outta 2! Holy Shit! I have a good lead!! OK don't get cocky! Blew 3 and went a lil wide, frick, frick, frick, : don't friggin blow this It might be your only chance, Hardcore is out with a crash, SMF is out from his concussion, no competition this is your race!! Coming over the hill and the bike sputters a lil.. What was that??! Nevermind it just keep going... Sputters more on the up hill to 8, huh?? Come on baby just hold together, but what could be going wrong? I just put gas in it... Is the fuel filter clogged? Lap 3 , the crew is still cheering and I am still trying to figure out what is wrong wiht the bike and it is getting worse, I am being really smooth now though and not losing time, it just isn't powering as well as I would like, I am looking back and checking every chance I get and the guy isn't getting closer, I had half the front straight on him that last lap. If the bike holds I am gonna WIN!!.... Coming through 12 and go to put the power on and the bike coughs, sputters and dies! :WTF: Holy crap come on start, I am trying everything, put the fuel switch to on instead of reserve... hit the switch and... nothing! Friggin A!!!!: 2nd place goes by, then 3rd... OHh frick I am done!! Push the bike over to pit wall and sit dejected. Trying to figure out what went wrong and Johnny B comes over, and offers condolences, the guys arrive with the golf cart to foot me back to the pits and I ride the dead bike back with my first DNF.
Everyone cheering and clapping whwn I got back to the pits. They call it my first win, I call it my first DNF. Oh well. I will get em next time.

I had a blast and felt good. For the weekend I had my fastest lap of a 1:29.1 so that is good. I can't wait to get back.

Nice reports Doc. Bad luck with that last race. Did you find out what caused the bike to splutter and die?

        doc,

        sounds like good racing.

remember, you rode really well. a mechanical dnf is nothing to be ashamed of.

if you rode this well this time, next time will likely be even better.

I can only hope... I was really hoping to get a 1:28... The leaders are in the 1:25 range and I only have a couple more race weekends left.
