The R 1200 S allready has sliders at the cylinders:

And they just won the open class in 24h-race-WM at Oschersleben/Germany.
      Well done, BMW

BTW: It's not the HP. The HP is an MX Bike, HP2 a Supermoto. The one above is a Production Racer based on R 1200 S.

          sliders?
damn, something scares me about the idea of dragging a hard part like that... knees and footpegs are one thing.. you hit a bump, and they move.... but the engine... eeek. i can see a tire unloading and tossing the bike.

There used to be a boxer cup race run at some of the ama superbike races here in the states- basically a bunch of somewhat vintage racers each given a somewhat stock bmw... great fun to watch since the bikes were all identical- especially when they banged the heads together1
            Sweet looking bmw :P

                190/190

Beemer is finally working on a real superbike. "190/190" = 190hp and 190kg. Going to be a 1000cc 4 cylinder chain driven bike. Looks like BMW is going WSBK racing, maybe AMA as well

The R 1200 S is not easy to handle. You need much experiance to go fast.
But I also tried the BMW F 800 S (don't know if you got it over there). That Bike is real fun even for less experianced riders! But nothing to hug like a hawk

                  bye, M.

Even though dragging a cylinder head would be kind of dangerous for wrecking, its just so cool.

I have always been a fan of the BMW boxer race bikes. But then again, I drive a Subaru, so maybe I'm biased to boxers.

HAHA!! Same here!! I really wanted an R1200S, so off to the local BMW shop I go... test rode it and hated it! The salesman says "here take this one out", it was an F800S and much to my surprise it was a total hoot! Honestly, it's the first BMW motorcycle I've ridden that I liked to ride*

                            (*I've only ridden the R1200S, R1200GS and the K1200R)

boxers inspire boners. simple as that. too bad they`re so heavy.
What was the start of all this?
When did the cogs of my Hawk begin to turn?
Perhaps it is impossible to grasp the answer now,
from deep within the flow of time...

But, for a certainty, back then,
I loved it so much, yet hated so many.
I hurt others and was hurt myself...

Yet even then, I rode like the wind,
                              whilst my laughter echoed
                              under cerulean skies...
