    R6 tail on the Hawk

This is just a mock up, but it gives me an idea of what it will look like when I build the subframe. I am planning on building a subframe similar to hiperform, just with a brace going from the seat to where the stock subframe mounts (bottom mount). I don't know yet, I haven't really decided on what I am going to do with it. click the picture for larger size

What do you guys think....I need feedback and ideas....also, if I mount the battery behind the shock like some of you have, where does the overflow bottle go, lose it? what if it needs to overflow?

The seat is about a half inch too wide on each side of the tank, it's pretty stiff too. I was thinking of heating the plastic up really hot and squishing it together and letting it cool, will that work or is there another way to get the seat tighter to the sides of the tank? Or possibly getting an f2 tank.....is it wider where it meets the seat? feed back really appreciated, thanks guys

Oh yeah, JD Hord rocks!! I just got my new vapor gauge, jet kit with uni pods, new clutch kit, and new cush drives....thanks Hord!

I'm not going to do this, but I thought it looked cool

      looks good

      never seen that one

i would talk you out of using the lower mounting points with a rear cowl like that. if you do its just going to take away from the nice lines you have put together.

also if you could bring the body work in (if possiable just 2-3 inches) its a bit long for my taste. like the hump on the rear cowl if you could bring that up agains the back of the seat. but im just looking at a few pictures.

      have fun.

I agree, the problem is that the seat itself is really long...I am considering trimming back the plastic part and rewrapping it, I've never done it before and don't want it to look like crap when I'm done.

I love the way it looks in the picture, but as far as strength goes, I really don't want a flimsey subframe, I am going to try and make it without the lower brace because it would look the best, we will see when I get there. As far as the hiperform subframe.....how strong is that? Does it flex at all? If it is really strong I would love to have one made similar to it with some changes to mount the tail to.

To each his own, I suppose. While I appreciate the work and the customization, I don't know that the very angular R6 tail really works well with the softer, more organic lines of the Hawk.

Personally, I'd think the 05/06 636 Tail section would look pretty cool though.

But beauty is in the eye of the beholder and the only opinion that matters is yours.

I also agree with the 636 tail, kinda like the concept bike from honda.

this is the bike that inspired the look I want.

But the r6 tail kinda fell into my lap so I wanted to see how it looked. with the price, I kinda let that make up my mind, I may change it later down the road if I find great deal on the 636 tail.

I love the Hiperform race tail, but there's no way to put a good seat on it. Ouch. Hemorrhoids.

im still a ways off from starting my subframe but i was thinking about adding a brace that just leaned on the frame half way between the two mounting points. really i plan on relying on the same mount has the hyper form subframe, for my primary connection points. but my construction will be diffrent and the "unsecured braces" would only be for back up. i agree safty first lol

is it possiable to cut the plastic instead of doing it the hard way

my bro got the seat on his kawi redone not to long ago and it was only $80
if you go that route i have to make a suggestion some how make the transition from the tank to the seat on the sides a bit better. i mean if your going to rip her open might has well do it 100%, right?

This is a microsoft paint drawing of what I was thinking for the subframe support.

I don't think it's too big. do you?

Hey hiperform... I see that you have a spacer on one side of your subframe where it mounts to the frame, because the rear shock is off center right? How far off is it, how big is that spacer? Pretty much anyone with a Hiperform sub can answer that I guess

As far as tearing opening up the seat and making those changes, I'm still not sure, I'm exploring my options and getting suggestions, which helps a whole lot in trying to figure out what to do.

my opinion your going to put all that work into the sub frame and its going to end up looking alot like a stock one.

but i would like to just throw another idea out there
curve it to match the line of the rear cowl
and also you could fill in that space with aluminum sheet

but that takes from the visual impact it has, the way it looks right now.

The offset of the the top shock mount is 1" or 25.4mm. That kinda makes it easy doesn't it.

or you could make an aluminum plate that joins the 2 subframe support and weld it an , flush the welds and make it look OEM......that would be simple...it would give the illusion of it being solid at the point that it mounts to the frame....it would stiffen it as well.....just a thought...i have a crap load of 6061 T6 alum plates in our scrap pile...i am sure the boss man would not mind if i grabbed you 2 little plates...you can have em gratis...just pay me for shipping...im all about supporting good ideas , and you have a great project there
