Is there a running count of how many times the motor and or gearbox have been in and out of the chassis?

Not that I’m aware of, but it must be pretty high. Especially since early on they had that sliding rack to push it into position.

To be fair ... those are dummy units for mocking everything else up. The "real" motor and transmission have yet to come near the car, I'm sure.

They covered some of that in one of the user question segments. Somone asked why they are building the beautiful car around all this rusty old Toyota stuff.. . they said that they are building the car then when the car is built it will get stripped down and all the systems refreshed and redone. So it may be that the current motor get rebuilt or that they have another.

They're master chess players when it comes to the details and planning for all that. For example, designing all the wiring components to easily unplug for when they finally send the body off for paint.
