When I was racing a 2002 in SCCA ITB, I shared a garage at Sears Point with two other 2002 drivers. Our garage was behind T-11 and almost directly across from McGee Motorsports Group Sonoma Ca. A Professional shop that primarily did high end race car prep, maintenance and development but sold parts as well ... it was the week before Laguna Seca Historic races and everyone was wrenching and testing all up and down the garage lane myself , my buddy and race mentor and the 3rd 2002 driver we had in our garage.

Anyway ... besides McGee preparing Parnell Jones's Trans Am BOSS 302 ...

They were preparing a Shadow Can Am car. And when they fired her up ... it was like thunder up and down the garages.everyone from every garage dropped their wrenches and it was like the race car pied piper, the Shadow pulls out of Mcgee with a driver heading out to test.

We ALL followed her and hung out on the hill behind turn 11 to watch the show. It was absolutely an amazing visceral cornucopia of deep chicken skin emotions... the motors Thunder you felt in your chest when it went by and hammered it up the straight to t -1 & 2 ... 3 & 3a T 4 and the carousel T7 T8 - 8a 9 and blasting around T10 coming directly tword the now large crowd on the hill ...
You could continually hear her all the way around the track like a loud thunder storm.
A true treat for sure. ...

          She looked like this one.

          SVRA-lg.jpg

The icing on the cake was i was pitted right next to Parnell the next weekend at Laguna Seca. ( one of my childhood heroes)

Definitely not this Shadow but just some stock footage from Sears Point ( walk around and start up)

Below may or may not be the car in question but a good example of what we all shared that day. Chicken Skin!

At Laguna Historic Races 1985 or 6 ? where i was pitted next to Parnell Jones; he was out testing and cut a right front tire just past pit in...

So it was a full lap before he could come in ... It didn't Seem to slow him down much at all ...

lol he was literally driving the wheels off that car!

My SCCA ITB 2002 And Trans Am at the Historic race at Laguna Seca

              IMG_1430.JPG

I had arguably one of the best motor builders Rebello Racing and was always in the hunt.

              http://www.rebelloracing.com/

I made the invataional SCCA runoffs my first year and rookie of the year followed by qualifying for the runoffs every year after that.

My car was Porsche Gold the first year and so my buddy / mentor started calling me " The Golden Child " lol and it stuck that year.

My car number was 43 and the next year i had a body shop sponsor ( which is really nice when racing ) and I had the livery above and my buddy started calling me "The King"
A Richard Pitty reference before I knew it that was my nickname around the track. Tongue in cheek.

I'd usually qualify up front 2nt or 3rd row next to or just behind my mentor. Before the race he says ... just follow me at the start. Off we go and he's passing cars on the outside T1 two wheels the dirt with me stuck on his bumper.

The nice thing about that line was we're on the inside of T2 and my buddies in p3 with me pulling up to p4 chasing another 2002 and a Opel Manta in p1.

Every year I'd get faster and so would my mentor who was always a few hundredth faster than me ... Ten years my senior, I figured the only way i was ever going to beat him was when he died

I was the only person that worked on my car and never had a DNF
but as it turned out most seasons my buddies car who someone else prepared would DNF 2-3 time in the season so I'd finish with more points.

Ah feels like, The Color of Money.

The young up coming hot shoe beats the old man .

They say, you can tell how old you are by how far back you have to reach for glory.

              So I'm showing my hand.

I could write you a novel about what is currently going on in the ‘sport’. Suffice to say for now our chassis selection has been frozen to the ‘19 models (which bodes well for us after winning 19 times and ultimately the Championship in 2019) but much of the year from a technical standpoint will be prepping to run a spec car (Gen 7) in 2021. It is said to ultimately cut costs (yeah, right) and unfortunately cut jobs. I’m lucky my current contract is thru ‘21, but after that I’ll probably be staring into the abyss. Not a huge deal for me, trying to cruise into Medicare age without any major hiccups. But there are going to be huge repercussions throughout the sport and I won’t be the only one standing in the unemployment line.

I’ll do do some digging to find some exciting media to post. Our social media department has a wealth of video, I just need to do some research. Ultimately, you can probably delete this post to keep the thread clean. But thanks for the invite!
