The Daytona 500 is this weekend and one of our members flyinelvis has a horse in that race.

Did Kyle Busch create the next big energy drink?

    DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. —

Kyle Busch made his way around a conference room table covered with a variety of energy drinks and took sips from each can. He tasted the familiar flavors of Monster and NOS — both of which he formerly endorsed — and sampled everything from Red Bull to Hiball to Bang to Reign and GURU.

    It left him absolutely disgusted.

“Some of them, dude, it was like Satan’s piss!” Busch said, voice rising to a near-yell as he recounted the experience. “It was like, ‘What is this shit? How did people develop this and think they could put this on a shelf for people to buy? Are you kidding me?’”

In the midst of research for his own energy drink, Busch made a vow on the spot: “We are not going to be that guy. That’s not going to happen.”

As the 2020 NASCAR season prepares to open with Sunday’s Daytona 500, Busch has gained two labels since his last points race in November: “Defending Cup Series champion” and...

So actually we have 4 (could be considered 5) horses in the race. Not only do we build the cars for Kyle ( 18 ) we also build for the defending Daytona 500 Champ, Denny Hamlin (11), the 19 of 2017 Series Champion Martin Truex Jr. and the 20 of young Erik Jones. We needed a spot to place rookie Christopher Bell, so a deal was worked out with our satellite team, Leavine Racing to put him in the 95 car for 2020. No telling what 2021 will hold.

If you’re interested, here’s a clip of the final laps of the Busch Clash, a non-points race from last weekend. The race started w/18 cars, first 65 of 75 scheduled laps were follow the leader (yawn), then all hell broke loose. Six cars were running at the finish. A real shit show. The 20 car of Jones and the 11 car of Hamlin (a lap down) get together to make for an exciting finish.

”Even a blind squirrel finds a nut”...

Wow ... they just keep getting younger.

In my experience* ... women racecar drivers are smoother then men ( on the track ) and faster than 80% of the men drivers.

                  However, when challenged for a pass and going in hot to a corner and its see who brakes first deal;
The women's survival instincts and smarts usually kick in and she backs out rather than crash

While a good but sometimes stupid ego driven male driver ... Will not friggin back out !... either you back out or we both crash!

*I rented my car to a woman to go through SCCA drivers school. Two weekends and probably on track 5 or six times a day with me preparing the car every time before she went out.

WOW! An amazing finish ... Hamlin, who led almost the entire race, was on his way to win. But then lost his teammates in two huge wreck-fests in the last laps which drew the yellow and tightened of the field. In an overtime two lap sprint to the checkered flag, Hamlin gets passed by Newman getting a bumper-bump he couldn’t control. As the spinning car of Newman got t-boned, Hamlin kept his foot down and regained the lead at the finish line by a mere three feet. Newman’s car pirouetted over the finish line and landed on its roof.

It is nothing short of a miracle that Newman survived!

I can just see jspeed53 with his note pad on the table with the remote next to the command chair.

Hey ... don't laugh ! He always gives a excellent report with [ everyone's names.] Just ask any member who has been at a Hawk Rally he attended ... they know about the note pad.

I'm betting he could give elapsed time, time remaining and lap numbers for his post race report if asked.

You'd never know we just won the Daytona 500. Very subdued here at the shop, and of course for good reason. A more detailed update on the extent of Ryan's injuries would be really welcomed by all in the industry. At 42 years, I'd venture to guess this was his last race.

Hard to believe this is our 3rd Daytona 500 win in the last 5-years. Denny (who won all 3) has been on fire in these Super Speedway races. It was said Dale Sr. could "see the air" in these events. Denny may have a touch of that, even though it took years and years for Sr. to win a 500. Kyle is in much the same boat. He's won everything, but...

Now we're off to Vegas with Ryan looming large in the rear view mirror. It'll be interesting to see who they plop in that seat for the west coast swing. Daniel Suarez? He has an iffy ride (didn't qualify for Daytona) and he and Scott Graves (Ryan's Crew Chief) have worked together (here as a matter of fact) and have some history. Time will tell.

OK, time to go back to work.
